Phub Dorji

"Born in the village of Dop Sari in Paro Valley, my days as a young boy growing up in this unspoiled Kingdom were filled with many carefree memories and appreciation of the purity of my surroundings. As soon as I started on the professional course for guiding in Bhutan, it dawned on me that this was a career that came naturally to me. Remembering the names and dates that delineated the

history of my country, Bhutan, came easily and it is with a great sense of pride that I recount the important dates and facts of the country I was born in. To add to this , guiding allowed me to still enjoy the freedom of the outdoors; whether it's a day hike across a mountain pass or a 3 day overnight camp along the Druk Path. Having done the Snowman's Trek and with my 15 years of experience as a professional guide in Bhutan, you can depend on my ability to ensure that your journey in this Kingdom will be well thought out and suited to your interests and ability. The last 7 years as a guide for a luxury resort has allowed me to fine tune my skills in guiding travelers who are discerning in what they would like to experience on their journey through this Kingdom." Ee-Cheng (1960 - 2016)

"In 1991, I stepped onto the island of Bali for the first time and was totally enchanted with this magical place. This connection with Bali was further sealed in 2005 when we built Amala Villas in Ubud; a private fully serviced villa for holiday rentals. It sits in the middle of paddy fields with Mount Agung as it's backdrop. Since then it has enjoyed an increasing popularity and success, with many guests returning and enjoying the luxury of being looked after in their private holiday home. Almost 18 years later, I stepped into a equally magical Himalayan Kingdom - Bhutan; and that same overwhelming feeling of identifying with something so close to my heart returned. Again, as with Bali, I kept returning to revisit this special connection and place. Bhutan has inspired me to work with it's devoted people and this started first with the Youth Development Fund's (YDF) souvenir production centre and more recently with the Pema Choling nunnery in Tang Valley. With this great love for an enchanting Kingdom, and experience in providing private personalised vacations - Amala Travel was born. Together with my business partner, Phub Dorji whose 7 years with a luxury resort in Bhutan has honed his skills in guiding the discerning traveller, we offer you unique and memorable itineraries and attention to all the details that would make your journey in this Kingdom unforgettable."

Long before Amala existed, Bhutan was already shaping the relationships and journeys that would eventually form its foundation.

This photograph, taken years ago during a trek captures our founder Mrs Tseng alongside our Bhutanese co-founder Dorji. What began as a shared love for Bhutan, its people, landscapes, and deeply rooted sense of community, slowly grew into years of returning, travelling, and creating journeys together.

Many of the experiences that define Amala today were born from those early moments spent walking through villages, sharing meals with local families, and building genuine friendships across the country.

More than 15 years later, Bhutan remains at the heart of Amala.

Only two places remain for a journey shaped by Himalayan trails, village homestays, shared meals, river canyons, and moments of stillness beneath Ladakh’s open skies.

Days unfold hiking between remote villages, rafting along the Zanskar River, and sitting down with local families to fold dumplings and share stories. Evenings return to quiet beneath the Himalayas.

A week where connection, comfort, culture, and landscape come together in one of the most remote corners of northern India.

Helicopter-only access. No roads. No crowds. Just the wild Okavango Delta at its most untouched.

At Kweene Trails by Beagle Expeditions, days unfold through walking safaris, mokoro journeys, and fire-cooked dinners beneath a sky untouched by light pollution.

Hidden deep within one of the Delta’s least explored regions, this is the kind of safari that quietly ruins every other safari afterwards.

And with 2026 forecasted to be an exceptional flood year, it may also be one of Botswana’s most extraordinary value luxury experiences for peak Delta season.

For travellers seeking a slower, deeply immersive side of Africa, Amala Destinations can craft this journey privately and thoughtfully.

Through France: One Table at a Time.

At Benoît, time seems to slow beneath mirrored walls, red banquettes, and the soft glow of Belle Époque Paris.

Opened in 1912 near the former Les Halles market once known as “the belly of Paris”, Benoît became beloved for its generous bistro cooking and warm atmosphere, welcoming everyone from market workers and artists to locals gathering late into the evening. More than a century later, it remains one of the last historic Parisian bistros still preserving that spirit today.

There is a certain kind of romance in places like this. Not only in the dining room itself, but in the feeling that some rituals still endure. Cassoulet prepared with patience. Tables lingering over wine. Recipes passed down rather than reinvented.

In a city constantly evolving, Benoît remains deeply rooted in the Paris that so many still come searching for.

Experience Paris through the places that continue to shape its cultural memory with Amala Destinations.

Normandy untolds like an impressionist painting in motion. From wandering through Claude Monet’s house and gardens in Giverny, to tracing the dramatic cliffs of Étretat that he returned to again and again with his canvas, this is a journey shaped by light, landscape, and the quiet beauty that inspired some of France’s greatest artists.

Along the way, linger in seaside towns like Honfleur, where Monet once stayed for over a year, endlessly captivated by the changing skies and harbour scenes that would later appear in his works.

Experience Normandy through an impressionist lens with Amala.

Perched above the Seine estuary in Honfleur, Ferme Saint Siméon has long been a gathering place for artists, writers, and wandering spirits. Claude Monet lived and painted here for over a year, drawn to the shifting Norman light, the quiet gardens, and the harbour views that would later shape some of his most celebrated works.

Today, the hotel has become a quiet haven for guests looking to experience Normandy through the same landscapes that once inspired the Impressionists. Days unfold between slow breakfasts overlooking the estuary, strolls through Honfleur’s historic harbour, and evenings spent watching the light change across the coastline, much like Monet once did from the very same grounds.

Pair a stay here with a visit to Monet’s home and gardens in Giverny for a journey through the landscapes, colours, and light that shaped the Impressionist movement.

Bangkok: Between Old & New

There are cities you visit once, and cities you return to without needing a reason. Bangkok belongs to the latter, where temples like Wat Arun sit beside street food stalls, and contemporary spaces like Dib Bangkok shape a new rhythm.

A city of contrasts, best experienced thoughtfully with Amala Destinations. Enquire for more information.
