Final stop before returning to the ship was Kerio Crater, a volcanic crater/depression that is approximately 170m wide, 270m long & 55m deep. The depression is believed to be caused when a volcanic cone erupted and lost much of its magma, causing the ground to collapse & leaving the bowl-shaped depression. Groundwater subsequently filled the bottom…Wow, what a phenomenon!

From the thundering waterfalls, we continue next to Geysir Geothermal Area where boiling pools, steaming vents and bubbling mud can be seen. Highlight is watching Strokkur build up pressure—the water suddenly bulges into a blue dome before exploding upwards….simply amazing!

Our 2nd stop of our Golden Circle tour was visiting the multi-tiered waterfall at Gullfoss. Hvítá River, fed by the Langjökull glacier plunges into a narrow, dramatic canyon creating a powerful cascade that turns sharply into the canyon..simply magnificent.

Whilst in Reykjavík, we left early today for a day tour to the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most famous sightseeing route, covering three major natural attractions near Reykjavík. Our 1st stop was Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park. This is the site where Iceland’s parliament, Althing, was established in AD 930. The site is located where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart. Enroute, capture some scenic photos before arriving.

Port of call: Reykjavik, arrival delayed by 3 hours due to strong turbulence waves in North Sea. Upon arrival, disembarked & took a taxi to the renowned Lava Show, a live volcanic experience where we experienced real molten lava flowing indoors..simply amazing.
