🌿 Joo Chiat–Katong Heritage & Food Walk

We wandered past colourful Joo Chiat Peranakan shophouses, stepped into Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple (so many of us said, “I’ve passed this so many times but never came in!”), and explored the Peranakan Gallery at Kim Choo Kueh Chang and the Eurasian Association, where history felt intimate and alive.

Intricate carvings. Heirloom wedding beds. Stories layered into every corner.

And of course, good food, great conversations, and plenty of “Wah, I didn’t know this!” moments.

A special thank you to Mr Indrayogan for his warm hospitality and great insights of Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple. And for indulging us in some authentic teh tarik & savoury Indian snacks.

And thank you to everyone who joined us!

The beautifully patterned boat you see here is a traditional Tao canoe from Lanyu (Orchid Island), built using techniques passed down through generations.

For the Tao people, the ocean is central to life, providing food, identity and tradition. The surrounding waters are also home to rich coral ecosystems that make Lanyu one of Taiwan’s unique marine environments.
