ARTS FISSION A contemporary dance company since 1994 known for its diverse and groundbreaking works. The company has presented dance works regionally and internationally.

Last year’s Moonstruck Series brought audiences a sparkling and serene wellness performance at the Japanese Garden’s Reflection Pond.

WATERMARKS OF THE MOON 《水渍月印》

As twilight falls, enter a quiet realm of reflection and light. Watermarks of the Moon 《水渍月印》 invites you into a lunar chamber where time slows to a trickle. Here, you are invited to pause upon the traces of a once-shimmering waterfall, discover a bare riverbed edged by moonlight, and attune your senses to the soothing world of water and light.

This performance is part of Lights by the Lake 2026, a signature annual event celebrating lights, music, and cultural delights at Jurong Lake Gardens.

Featuring ARTS FISSION professional dancers, senior performers from Tzu Chi Seniors Engagement & Enabling Node (Nanyang), and NAFA dance students.

THE SECRET ROOM OF URBAN BESTIARY — 幻兽隐室

What nameless beasts took refuge in this room?

One glides in shadows made visible only in reflections,
Before retreating along the walls like thick roving clouds in the sky.

Another sinks to the floor and bows its head: dreaming of cool baths deep in the jungles.

Then there’s one who clings onto the staircase,
recalling a past life of scaling up and down perilous peaks.

And stomping its hooves is the one who realizes it can
no longer race with the wind,
made more agitated by the myna mocking outside the window.

Natural habitats are losing grounds.
Sounds of the wild overtaken by rumble of bulldozers and mobile cranes.

Overturned forests, parched riverbeds, charred earth, and flooded sky – a paradise lost.

For the beasts, these urban hideouts will have to do now.
They provide haven for shelter, but in a limbo that no one can ever leave.

Our performance THE SECRET ROOM OF URBAN BESTIARY is a restaging of our virtual experimentation during the 2020 Covid lockdown. The experiment then was conducted online. It began with the cell-like bedroom each dancer was confined in. They were to transcribe their extreme anxiety into a be***al avatar moving in the trapped space.

6 years later, the tension of uncertainty and entrapment still remains and exerts its agitation. This is what our upcoming gallery performance project is all about, in collaboration with Alliance Française’s upcoming mid-August exhibition — A TALE OF WONDERING WILDS.

Arts Fission was invited to present talk and workshops on 22 July at the Ageing Artfully Conference by Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts UAS. The idea of slow living is the main focus of our presentation. Artistic Director Angela Liong presented a talk on foraging liveable moments for longevity in the city.

Following her talk, Assistant Rehearsal Director Aisha and Senior Dancer Marveen gave a mass workshop titled Palms of Weather Stories. They charmed the entire hall of conference participants and had them danced to the poetic imagery of the elements.

Another movement workshop titled A Spring In Your Step guided participants to reinforce core strength through engaging creative dances. The workshop was deftly delivered by three Arts Fission’s Facilitators — Andine, Ignatius, and Leh Leh who are all NAFA alumni.

TAKE A BOW, EVERYBODY!

After much intensive exploration between musicians and dancers working towards a new approach to performance-making, both Reverberance and Arts Fission found out that the time and effort spent in the collaborative venture are well worth it!

The audience realized that musicians no longer have to sit still and play their instruments, and dancers can roam with underpinning kinetic rhythms to add texture to the music. Now how cool is that!
