The cabinet aimed at drawing a million qualified and wealthy foreigners and highly qualified professionals to assist in reviving the economy following the collapse of Covid-19.

The benefit includes a ten-year Thai visa for authorized special visitors, as well as their spouses and children. Additionally, the package includes automatic work permits, the same income tax rates as Thai nationals, and property and land ownership.

For this long-term visa scheme, the government has 4 target groups

Wealthy global citizens:
Invest at least US$500,000 in Thai government bonds or real estate through foreign direct investment (FDI). Requires a minimum annual income of US$80,000 for the preceding two years, as well as a minimum asset worth of US$1 million and hold minimum health insurance coverage of US$100,000.

Wealthy pensioners:
At least 50 years old, required to invest at least US $250,000 in Thai government bonds or real estate through foreign direct investment (FDI), a minimum annual income of US $40,000, and hold health insurance coverage of at least US $100,000.

Work from Thailand professionals:
Digital nomads who have sufficient pensions to cover their costs of living in Thailand and near-retirees from large organizations are expected.

Highly skilled professionals:
Wishes to come to Thailand to work as experts in the government's target industries, must have a minimum of five years of work experience, earn at least US$40,000 per year, and hold health insurance coverage of at least US $100,000.

Thailand reduces quarantine period for international arrivals from 1 October 2021.

The country's Covid-19 situation was improving, as new infections and deaths decreased as a result of improved patient care.

Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Department of Disease Control, said quarantine would be shortened to seven or ten days on a case-by-case basis. Visitors who have who have been fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) or the World Health Organisation (WHO) will be quarantined for seven days and tested for Covid-19 using the RT-PCR method upon arrival and again on day seven, he explained.

Visitors who are not vaccinated will be quarantined for ten days. They will undergo two RT-PCR tests, first upon arrival and another before finishing the quarantine. Visitors in this category must arrive by plane only.

For people traveling by land who are not fully vaccinated, the 14-day quarantine will remain in effect. Dr Opas added that they would be subjected to two rounds of RT-PCR testing.

The proposed measures would apply to all visitors. The Phuket Sandbox reopening initiative revealed that local illnesses, not visitors, caused an outbreak, he claimed.
