Indra Bahadur started is business in 1942 in the mountainous region in Shillong. There the humble tattoo skill was brought to Singapore after the Japanese Occupation by the 3 Gurkhas. Indra Bahadur his youngest brother and brother-in-law made the journey in1950 and started their first tattoo business in Singapore.

Indra Bahadur famously known as the Two Thumb Gurkha founded New Lucky Store. The business was located in 37 Bras Basah Road.

A two-story shophouse where the business ran and the family lived above.
The business was not solely just tattooing, his daughter Sakuntala Debi engraving as well. They sold pewter, shirts Parker pens, and souvenirs to tourist and the local community.
Indra Bahadur's two sons Singha Bahadur & Harkah Bahadur were trained by their father to tattoo.

Indra Bahadur was very protective of his tattoo trade he refused to teach anyone and only parted his knowledge to family members. Many sought the Tattoo master for an apprenticeship and were always declined.
Back then sailors used to call out the name Johnny to refer to any person.
Indra Bahadur born with two thumbs on his right hand was called the Two Thumb Gurkha or Johnny with the two thumbs.
His brother was called Johnny Nepal and his brother- in law Johnny Gurkha.

Many of my Grandfather's old clients have paid us visits at our family business in Far East Plaza. Reminiscing fondly the old days in New Lucky Store where they met the grand tattoo master.
