We’re looking for 3 freelance outdoor facilitators to join Beyond Expeditions. 😎👊🏻

Not simply someone who can run activities, but someone who can lead people well outdoors.

You should have genuine outdoor or expedition experience, be confident facilitating adult groups, and be able to communicate with people from different walks of life, from new joiners to senior leaders.

We value competence, but equally important is how you show up.

𝗪𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼.

Rain. Heavier rain. The rain that gets in through the first rain. A spare fleece, for Singapore, just in case. Two head torches because one might fail. A power bank the size of a brick, and a second power bank in case the brick fails.

Then you put it all on your back and start walking, and you find out the one scenario nobody planned for was the bag.

Every group does this on their first practice journey. It is not silly, it is nerves. Every extra item is a worry somebody could not quite put down, which is how a pack quietly turns into anxiety with shoulder straps.

Here is the good part. It fixes itself, and fast. You carry it once, you feel it by hour three, and on the qualifying journey your bag is half the size and you move twice as well. No kit list teaches that. The hill teaches that.

Which is the whole point of a practice journey. It is designed to go slightly wrong somewhere cheap, so it does not go wrong somewhere expensive.

𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁. 🗺️🏝️

Silver practice journey. A bus stop that was supposed to be a five minute break. 🤭

One of them still has the map. One of them has opinions about the map. This is the exact moment DofE starts teaching you something.

Here is the thing nobody warns you about expeditions. The hills are not the hard part. The hard part is four people, four opinions, thirty degrees of heat, and a decision that has to happen in the next two minutes.

So yes, you learn to read a map. You also learn how to disagree with your friends without the whole thing falling apart. How to spot the one person going quiet at the back. How to keep moving when the plan you spent a week on stops working.

That is a life skill wearing hiking boots.

And practice journeys are supposed to go a bit sideways. That is literally the design. Far better it happens now, on a footpath, with a bus stop nearby, than on your qualifying journey.

This is exactly what we love about survival training. It’s not about looking tough or carrying expensive gear. It’s about actually knowing how to use your tools, stay calm, and feel confident handling yourself outdoors.

Meet Meowgovi of Mandalgovi 😼👋🏻

Clearly the real boss of the household, and judging by that face, he was not impressed that we interrupted his day for a photo. 🤪

Fun fact: Mandalgovi is the capital of Dundgovi, Mongolia’s “Middle Gobi”, where the open steppe gradually starts giving way to the vast Gobi landscape.

Meet one of the Gobi uncles, carrying two little lives like it’s just another ordinary day at the office. Out here, wealth looks a little different: healthy animals, open land, enough water, and knowing when it’s time to move. 👨🏽‍🦳🐐🐐🏜️🇲🇳

Fun fact: Mongolia’s nomads don’t just move homes, they move with nature. For generations, families have followed the grass, water and seasons, reading the land to know exactly when it’s time to pack up and move on. Could you imagine packing up your entire home and moving with the seasons? 👀
