𝗦𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗧 𝟭𝟲... 🎂
(well, technically 21, but we were knee-deep in chaos and forgot our own “Founder’s Day” back in August… classic NAJ.)
In October 2009, 𝗡𝗼 𝗔𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗲 officially became a registered business in Singapore. Before that, we were just a bunch of pretenders winging it. Sixteen years on… still here, somehow. 🙏
Coincidentally, just this past fortnight, we popped up as surprise guests at Singapore Design Week, as part of its “Reinvention” showcase at the gorgeous new Geneo in Science Park. We told our story as a larger-than-life comic book: stumbling from documentaries into gaming, never quite leaving our roots, and somehow making games of our own along the way.
Speaking of which, last weekend our long-suffering game, 𝗢𝘄𝗻 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗢𝘄𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 (𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗧), clawed its way out of development hell for a public showcase at the National Library. Turns out… people still love it, so the patient isn’t dead just yet.
Looking ahead to what’s left of the year (it’s flown by again, hasn’t it?), two projects close to our hearts are in the works:
𝟵 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 🐈⬛ An anthology film about how our feline friends shape our lives. From families stumbling into fostering, to game designers turning cats into digital heroes, and everything in between. Each story told in a different vein - slice-of-life, parody, music video, even animation. It’s part-funded by Canon to showcase the power of their new compact PowerShot V1 (which we’re shooting it with), and we’re planning a physical screening before it finds a digital home.
𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🎮 One of only 30 stories selected for SG60 under IMDA’s first-ever indie fund (via AIPRO). It explores Singapore’s footprint on games that went global. And yes, for once, we find ourselves in front of the camera... awkwardness coming soon to TikTok & IG.
So yeah, 16 years (or 21, depending on how you count). Disruption, reinvention, cats, and questionable life choices. We’re grateful to still be here, mostly punching above our weight... and occasionally below the belt.
Here’s to surviving long enough to forget the next milestone! 🖖
