In 1887, the Ministry of Trade and Transport approved the project for a single-track railway, following the proposal of Count Peter Walderstein. Seven years later, the Istrian Provincial Council almost unanimously passed a law to build the Trieste–Poreč railway, with a planned extension to Kanfanar.
Due to the approaching World War I and lack of funds, the extension was never built. 😔
If it had been, the Poreč line would have been named Trieste–Poreč–Kanfanar, and all boundary markers on lands purchased by the Local Railway Society Trieste–Poreč–Kanfanar were marked TPC.

All stations along the Parenzana railway—except those equipped only with a passenger shelter and a lamp post—also had auxiliary buildings used for storing railway equipment, tools, and materials for track maintenance.
The most important of these was the freight warehouse with an access ramp, allowing efficient loading and unloading of goods.
Weighbridges were installed in Trieste, Buje, and Poreč. A special feature was the Sečovlje station, where a road weighbridge for coal was located along the left side of the road leading to the station.
To ensure train operations and to heat station buildings and nearby facilities, dedicated coal storage buildings were available at the stations in Koper, Sečovlje, Buje, Livade, and Poreč.

When the Austrian Empire completed the Southern Railway in 1857, creating a rail connection between Vienna and Trieste, a new challenge emerged: how to connect the poorly developed Istrian hinterland with the rest of the monarchy.
In 1873, construction began on the railway section between Divača and P**a, which was completed in less than three years.
However, the coastal population was far from satisfied. The railway ran through the interior of Istria, bypassing the coast altogether.
The reason? Military strategy. A coastal railway would have been an easy target in the event of a naval attack.
