According to World tourism barometer, Albania has the highest increase (+19%) in Europe and second in the world in International tourist arrival.
It is great news to us all that Albania is finally getting international recognition and receiving well-deserved, worldwide attention.
โBut is Albania ready for the tourist boom?โ
Last week Kompas Balkans Director, Mrs Teja Avdijaj joined the Tourism and Travel Show Albania in Tirana and had the honour to speak on the panel about this topic alongside Mr Sean Taggart from ETOA - European tourism association, Mrs Kornelia Ferizaj from National Tourism Agency of Albania, Mr Kliton Gรซrxhani from ATOA, Mrs Cheryl Everitt from A Wheel and Away, moderated by Mr Tine Murn from New Deal Europe.
Kompas has been present for many years in Albania, and we have had quite a journey seeing it develop and head in the right direction to be one of the most popular destinations in Europe - even the World!
Therefore, in the forum Teja highlighted:
-the importance of education of staff employed in the tourism sector in Albania
-the importance and awareness of tourism sustainability
-how to avoid mass tourism and make sure Albania does not lose authenticity but still turn profits
-the slow progress from being one of the โmost affordableโ destinations to one of the โmost wantedโ destinations
- suggesting that Albanian suppliers cooperate with international tourism associations to see what international tour operators and tourists need and expect from the country
-protecting the domestic, guaranteed tourism
-the development of infrastructure for inland cities/villages - not exclusively the Albanian riviera
Thank you for organization and invitiation Tine Murn and Robert Dee from New Deal Europe.
