Svalbard Wildlife Expeditions RESCPECT NATURE | EMBRACE WILDERNESS

Svalbard Wildlife Expeditions AS was established in 2008, but its roots are all the way back to 1992 when Svalbard Wildlife Service was established and started with toursim on Svalbard. In 1980 Arne Krisoffersen (the founder), came to the Svalbard and worked as a miner. Most of the years he have spent here on the island, and probably knows it better than many other. After one year, Svalbard Wildlife Service was established in 1990, and Arne started his first trips the same summer. This was the modest beginning of the toursim on Svalbard. "Svalbard Wildlife Eiendom" and "Gruve 3" was earlier a part of Svalbard Wildlife Service, but are now splint as individual companies. Svalbard Wildlife Eiendom has the "Guesthouse 102" that offers overnight in Longyearbyen.

Ymerbukta and Esmark Glacier feel like a home in nature to us 🌿

Every summer since 1998, we've returned with our wilderness camp. Looking back, it's hard to imagine how many mountain hikes, campfires under the midnight sun, glacier paddles, wildlife encounters, new friendships, and unforgettable moments in nature this place has given us.

Photos can never fully capture a place like this. You have to hear the glacier crack and rumble, watch drifting icebergs slowly melt, spot a seal surfacing beside your kayak, and see birds circling the glacier front before plunging into the icy water.

Needless to say, we're looking forward to another season, which is luckily just around the corner 🦭

Some mountain views will stay with you forever. The ones from our 4-day hiking expedition in Nordenskiöld Land certainly will 🌄🌞

Imagine looking down into Coles Bay, where you had your camp just the day before. Now, after gaining all that height again, you can trace your own path across the landscape below.

From here, we will keep the height and hug the mountain. Weather permitting, the views stretch far across Isfjorden.

On Ylva, it’s just you and up to seven other guests.

The experience is very different from traveling on a larger ship. You’ll need your sea legs and an appreciation for adventure, but the rewards are plenty: more time ashore, the freedom to explore at your own pace, and the opportunity to enjoy long hikes without feeling rushed.

We’ve just added new departures - don’t wait too long!

Your personal wilderness-chef and expedition guide at work 👨‍🍳 Do you have any favorite recipes we should try at our wilderness camp?

…and yes, helping with the dishes is still the fastest
way to win your guide’s sympathy 😉

Yes, paddling 15 km in a kayak each day can be strenous - but you know what’s even harder? Trying to fall asleep when it’s this beautiful.

There’s a reason we head to Billefjorden. And a reason we go in August - the colours are something else. 🌄

Are you joining our 4-day Kayak Expedition?

Why do we keep talking about the geology in Billefjorden? Because of this 😍

You don’t need to be a geologist to appreciate the colours and rock formations here (but some paddling experience is a good idea). From a sea kayak, you’ve got all the time in the world to take it in as the landscape slowly drifts by.

Our 4-day Kayak Expedition departs August 15th - still time to join 🧭

If you’re willing to step a little outside your comfort zone you can experience Svalbard in a whole different way. You will see views that very few people ever get to experience.

Hiking is at the core of what we do. We take our time getting to remote peaks, and we don’t mind spending the whole day outside. We walk over rocks, and tundra, cross some streams, walk through moraines, across snowfields and ice.

When we are camping in Ymerbukta, we don't have to be back at a certain time. When the light is right, and the wind calms down, we keep going. Sometimes we stay out longer, and sleep in the next morning 😌 Because time doesn't matter out here 🌅

Not our boat transfer back across the fjord, but the ride that brings us back onboard the ship after four days in the wilderness.

A boat journey at the end of the trip gives you time to take it all in before heading back to the city 💭

Excuse us — we haven’t properly introduced her yet ⛵️Ylva.

She’s our home at sea, a floating basecamp we return to after long days of hiking in the mountains. On board you’ll meet the friendliest crew and captain - your family for the journey.

Ylva is all about comfort, so you can fully focus on the experience. The cabins are thoughtfully set up, with warm duvets and cosy bunks for a good night’s sleep. And the view? Waking up to the sea right outside your window speaks for itself 🌊

Our guides are heading out this July — want to join?

Thanks to for bringing us along on your beautiful boat 🫶
