We all made it to Cambridge Bay yesterday. Heaps of thanks to Canadian North Airlines for air and cargo support!
Brandon Langan has been our main contact to make it all happen and he managed to sign up 10 youth from the community! Brandon is one special guy who was invited to the Vatican (pic below) for World Youth Day a few months ago.
It was so wonderful to meet Harry Maksagak and Mary Rose Maksagak 2 of the 4 revered Elders of the land that will share their time, love and skills during the camp.
The weather is ...sh*tty...too windy for our boat trip so we leave Tuesday. The okay part about that is that Hilde did not get her 3 bags from Amsterdam so fingers crossed it all arrives here on Monday. Send good vibes!

And...sadly our dear George Pamiok Angohiatok has been very ill the past 5 weeks Thank God he is still with us. He's at the hospital in Yellowknife - fingers crossed he returns home to his family and beloved community of Cambridge Bay on Sunday.
We cannot wait to see him.
George is a true "man of the land". It is 100 percent because of him and his dream to share all his knowledge and wisdom with the youth that we are here hosting this camp after 2 1/2 years of planning. We are deeply gutted that he cannot be with us physically but he certainly will be with us all in spirit.
Safe Travels to us George.

Phew! 3 Grants written- 2 approved.! Yay! Yay! Yay! Close to 2 1/2 years in the making and moving at the speed of Trust.
This is the week we head to Cambridge Bay to start our Elder led Youth Survival Camp IQ. Our idea started as one thing many moons ago and is now exactly what it should be "Elder led, community based and community driven". I am so proud of Hearts in the ice, our vision and desire to make a small deposit into the lives of those that are so richly deserving.
I have to say a huge thanks to some key players that really pinched hit for us with so little time- MEC, Fjallraven, Helinox, Aclima, Canadian North, Telus.

When our seed was initially planted 3 years ago it was the team at Daughters for Earth and One Earth that held us up- thank you thank you!
Maeva Gauthier we will miss you up there but we'll take good care of Laura Grant. Together with Live It Earth we are all going to make some magic happen.
For the record- everyone should be so lucky to have a Langan in their life XX

I feel like we are living proof that anything is possible with your heart in the right place and a big dose of clarity, patience and persistance. We promise updates along the way!

Today has been a truly special day.
First day at sea across the Denmark Strait with rough seas night 1 now calm seas night 2. The 5 of us that we are calling the "Polar Women Special" Milbry Polk Diane Fiedler Kristen Gilbertson Olesen Hilde Fålun Strøm and myself are on the MS Fridtjof Nansen ready to share our diverse and unique lived experiences and perspectives of the Arctic.
Today is June 25 "The Day of the Seafarer" which was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila. Its stated purpose is to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole.
To that end I share a photo of my Tonsberg Norway ( my birthplace) taken Oct 2018. There are many seafarers in the photo including my brother Martin who still works at sea, my uncle Egil and my Dad who have sailed all over the world and are both now enjoying peace in the skies and stars above.

The ocean, the sea and the wide open expanse is a thread that runs deep in my family. I celebrate the amazing spirit of exploration that runs deep in all who work at sea.! Fair winds always ! ###

Three years ago today we took a short trip into the town of Longyearbyen to resupply, ponder what to do after Covid had taken a hold of the world and then ride back to the cabin for a summer to decide what’s next. This was all after after nine months of being in total isolation !
———-
Good bye, for just a short while, Bamsebu! Heading back to this week for some meetings, interviews and re-stocking before spending the rest of the summer in our little wooden cabin
