Two stony “monks” in the southern wall of Gerlach (2.655 m) — have long been considered a symbol of spring in the mountains 🏔️ ❄️ 🌱
According to an old Tatra legend, when the “two monks” appeared in spring, it meant winter in the Tatras was finally losing its power and warmer days were coming to the mountains 🏔️ ⛰️

Out in the mountains with the next generation - Part 2 🚸 🎒 🧒
My colleague Roman and I on an easy noon hike with kids – a bit of guiding basics, a bit of mountain know-how. ⛰️ 🪢 ➕
A good reminder: not only is every day in the mountains a good day – sometimes a day out of school is a pretty good one too 😎

Out in the field with the next generation 🚸🧒🎒
Because of nationwide testing for 9th graders, the younger students were “kicked out” of school for the day.
So my colleague .ka.99 and I were given an interesting mission – to introduce a small but precious natural reserve: the Pramenisko wetland in Tatranská Lomnica.💦🌿🌳
End of winter, grey tones, quiet landscape.
I couldn’t help but wonder – if I were a teenager, would I see more than just a swamp? 🤔😁
We gave it a try.
A few stories, a bit of explaining, a bit of walking.
And somehow, it worked 😎
The students were curious (or at least very polite 🙂), the teachers were great, and the place did its magic.
After all, every day in the mountains is a good day.

Hiking with & club ☀️
A perfect way to enjoy a sunny winter day in the High Tatras. From Starý Smokovec, we hiked beneath the massive slopes of Slavkovský Peak to the mountain hotel Sliezsky dom, resting in the shadow of Gerlach Peak, the highest peak of the Tatras.
Back along the red-marked Grand Traverse trail (Magistrála) to Hrebienok, a moment inside the Ice Dome inspired by the Basilica of Saint John Lateran in Rome, and a joyful sledging ride down to Smokovec.

Winter hiking in the High Tatras 🏔️🏔️🏔️
The bright side of short December days is the opportunity to enjoy the sunrise in the mountains.🌄
Low snow conditions meant no ski touring this time, but excellent conditions for winter hiking.
Mostly in the shade as the sun appeared just above the ridge. A few moments of freezing silence — the calm before the approaching windstorm.
