DID YOU KNOW?

Sulima is a small coastal town in Sierra Leone, lying at the mouth of the Moa River. Due to its proximity to neighboring Liberia, the town has naturally oriented itself south towards ‘The Love of Liberty Brought Us Here’ for trade and commerce. As a result, Liberian dollar is the dominant currency for daily transactions, and most inhabitants speak a form of Liberian Kolokwa English (Krio) as their primary language, creating a unique cultural and economic enclave that feels more Liberian than Sierra Leonean.

Budapest-Bamako Rally Injects Economic Boost into Sierra Leone as First Cohort Concludes.

*FREETOWN* – The first cohort of the world-renowned Budapest-Bamako Rally has successfully concluded its Sierra Leonean leg, marking a significant win for the nation’s tourism and local economy. Over 700 participants and a fleet of more than 300 vehicles, including motorbikes, crossed the finish line, culminating in a vibrant closing ceremony at the Gigibonta car park.

The event was characterized by a flawless safety record, with organizers reporting no casualties or incidents of drowning despite the large crowds at Bureh Beach. Beyond the adventure, the rally has proven to be a major commercial success. Local car dealers reported high sales volumes as many participants opted to sell their rugged vehicles locally upon arrival.

The economic ripple effect extended to the hospitality and craft sectors. Hotels reported peak occupancy rates, while local artisans saw a surge in handicraft sales. Government officials are currently measuring the total impact of landing visa fees collected at border crossing points, which signals a healthy revenue stream for the state.

With the first batch of adventurers having enjoyed the best of Sierra Leonean hospitality, the nation now prepares for the second cohort, expected to arrive in March.
