"From a young age, I've had a deep love for nature. Being outdoors has always given me peace and energy, and my connection with the natural world has only grown stronger over the years.

At Unlock Nature, I work as an office assistant, supporting daily operations and helping to organise tours, including the Peperpot tour. I make sure everything runs smoothly and that our guests feel welcome and at ease.

For me, this work is more than just a job. It’s a way to combine my passion for nature with helping others discover and experience the beauty of Suriname. I find great fulfilment in contributing to a pleasant and unforgettable experience for every guest."

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁

Exhausted, low on energy, and facing one of the toughest days of the expedition. But ready for our next Guinness World Record attempt: the fastest time to climb Table Mountain.

Of course, not without obstacles.

A massive boulder wall stood between us and Table Mountain.
There was no trail. No easy way forward.
Only sharp rocks, steep climbs, and the weight of everything we carried.

Worm? Not quite. 🪱

This animal may look like a worm, but it’s actually a caecilian - a legless amphibian more closely related to frogs and salamanders than to worms or snakes.

This species, (Microcaecilia unicolor), is one we encounter fairly regularly on Brownsberg. Caecilians spend most of their lives underground, where they hunt for termites, ants, and other small invertebrates.

Some species are even known to lay their eggs inside termite mounds, where the warm and humid conditions help the eggs develop.

Secretive and rarely seen, caecilians are among the most mysterious amphibians of the rainforest.

𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁

We pulled ashore, thinking we'd found the perfect place to camp. Quiet. Still.

But it turned out to be the path of a herd of peccaries, moving fast toward the river.

For a moment, it felt like they were coming straight for us.

𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆?

We spotted this sloth and her baby in Peperpot Nature Park, just outside the city. They prefer secondary and coastal forests, which is why they are relatively often found around inhabited areas.

Baby sloths usually cling to their mother for about 5 or 6 months while they nurse and develop. After weaning, they gradually become independent but may still stay close to their mother for some time before fully dispersing.
