Cruisers Rally is now Cruisers Vacation in El Salvador

We received an email yesterday morning from Chunga Changa, a Landfall 39 with 3 Russian crew on their way to Panama They blew one of their injectors and needed to come in for emergency repairs. We met them at the entrance this afternoon but, half way over the boar their engine started pumping out huge amounts of smoke and died. The pilot and I got our tow lines out and towed them to the dock.

In the interest of safety, Bahia del Sol has implemented the following changes:

Passage is only permitted at high tide during daylight hours when the tides are greater than 5.7 feet and when the swell forecast is 1.1 meter (3.6 feet) or less. Some leeway is available on very high spring tides. Morning tides are always better due to the absence of wind waves.

Changes to COVID protocols for entry to El Salvador by sea.

If you received a COVID vaccination you may now enter El Salvador by showing proof of vaccination. If the vaccination is the two-dose type you must present proof of receiving both doses.

For all others you must present either a negative PCR-RT, LAMP, or NAAT test. You must arrive withing 72-hours of receiving the test results.

Thank you Dee Dee and Brent aboard Scuba Niinjia for your donation. We set aside the funds to purchase more chemicals for our mosquito abatement project. We've had double the rain so far this year and it is more difficult to get them under control.

The idea for the cruisers rally was to make Bahia del Sol a regular stop on cruisers southbound itinerary. After operating for 10 years that was accomplished. In recent years rally membership diminished even though overall (non rally) arrivals increased. Because of the smaller number of entrants it has become difficult to organize activities and events, so we have decided not hold future rallies.

We have always considered Bahia to be a "cruisers vacation" and although we no longer have the rally hardly anything has changed. Everyone still gets welcome drinks, information packets and generous hand holding among other things.
We have some permanent social activities and are happy to organize others depending on group interest.

We thank all the cruisers who have become ambassadors for Bahia del Sol and the Panama Posse for helping keep Bahia on the southbound "must see" list.

It goes without saying that we are here to help cruisers in any way we can to make Bahia del Sol an enjoyable experience.
