Birding in El Salvador

We had a productive half-day birding tour with two birders from Texas, USA 🇺🇸 — ending up with more than 50 bird species! 🐦‍⬛

At the start, we were delighted by close-up views of the beautiful turquoise-browed motmot — the national bird of El Salvador 🇸🇻!

We also spotted 4 different species of orioles:
1. Streak-backed
2. Altamira
3. Spot-breasted
4. Baltimore.

The trails in Bicentenario Park also gave beautiful views of an Elegant Trogon and a Gartered Violaceous Trogon. We were also happy to spot a target species, the Cinnamon Hummingbird, near the end.

A highlight was observing the movements of some Common Squirrel Cuckoos as they climbed the trees. ⛰️ At Boquerón National Park, we added some highland species like Mountain Elania, Rufous-collared Robin, Brown-backed Solitaire , Rufous Hummingbird, White-winged Tanager, Mexican Violetear.It was an incredible morning of birding!

Our visitors also tried (and loved) local food like delicious pupusas, enjoyed the scenery and learned about the history of El Salvador and our educational program to support local birding guides from rural areas. 💙 🤍 We were joined Juan Jose, one of my trainees from the program, who did a fantastic job of finding birds with our spotting scope during the tour. 🔭

Bird photography 📸 tour to start the year with .sunset.office we found and photographed some target species like
White-faced Quail-Dove, Bar-winged Oriole, Green-throated Mountain-gem, Blue-and-white Mockingbird, Brown-backed Solitaire. We birded the grounds at Cerro Verde park and una ventana a la naturaleza trail, had delicious local food with Pupusas being the group favorites plus, great Salvaforan coffee plus jawdropping viewsof nearby Izalco, Santa Ana volcanoes and Coatepeque lake weather was pleasant turning the visit into a good morning for birding.

Pictures of one of our last nature tours with visitors from USA and England, spotting local fauna in shaddy trails , flat terrain where Spider Monkeys where along the way for a while, bird species like country national bird Turquoise browed motmot known a "El Togoz" cooperated for pictures and reptiles took special attention of our travelers
