لكن كيف خرجت هذه الكنوز من سوريا؟ ومن نقلها؟ وأين توجد اليوم؟ وهل يمكن أن تعود يوماً إلى موطنها الأصلي؟

The General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums announced the registration of 9 Syrian heritage sites on the list of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), after a break of 14 years.

The sites included, according to what was published on their page, "Salah al-Din Castle, the Umayyad Mosque, Al-Azm Palace, Anbar Office, Damascus Castle, Al-Omari Mosque in Daraa, Afamia, the Endowment Library in Aleppo, and the archaeological site of Al-Lajat," and stressed that this step reaffirms the civilizational status of the Syrian heritage, and enhances the efforts of protection and international definition of Islamic and world heritage.

هذا الصندوق البديع من النحاس من القرن 15 وكان يختص بمعدّات ضابط الوقت في المسجد الأموي الكبير في دمشق.

وضابط الوقت هو مهندس ميكانيك مسؤول عن صيانة ساعة المسجد المائية، وكان اسمه آنذاك محمّد الحموي. وإلى جانب مهمّته الهندسية كان مسؤولاً عن إعلان الوقت لتحديد مواقيت الصلاة بدقّة.

الصندوق نموذج لجودة وروعة الصناعات النحاسية العربية في المشرق في عهد الدولة العبّاسية الثالثة في القاهرة، التي نعرفها اليوم باسم سلطنة المماليك.

الصندوق وبعد أن سرقته الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية؛ معروض اليوم في متحف الفنون المتروپوليتان في نيويورك.

This is an amble copper box from the 15th century and specialised in the equipment of the time officer at the Great Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

The time officer is a mechanical engineer responsible for the maintenance of the mosque's water clock, and his name was then Mohammed Al-Hamwi. In addition to his engineering mission, he was responsible for announcing the time to accurately determine prayer times.

The fund is a model of the quality and splendour of the Arab copper industries in the Levant during the era of the Third Abbasid State in Cairo, which we know today as the Sultanate of the Mamluks.

The box, after being stolen by the United States of America; is on display today at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
