The Akodessawa Fe**sh Market or Marche des Feticheurs is the world's largest voodoo market
*
The market features monkey heads, skulls, dead birds, crocodiles, skins and other products of dead animals - all of which are used for traditional medicine.
*
Voodoo has a long tradition in Togo and is the primary religion. Centuries ago, slaves from Africa brought Yoruba gods to the Caribbean and South America. There it came to mixing of African gods with the saints of Christianity and the symbols of the Catholic Church. In course of time they changed their meaning. When former slaves and their families migrated to West Africa they developed a voodoo cult in the country of origin of their families.

GHANA IS A LAND OF SUNSHINE AND SMILES.

Have you ever been anywhere in West Africa? Where did you go? Was it as dangerous as everyone back home told you it would be?

Cape Coast Castle is one of about forty "slave castles", on the Ghanian coast By European traders. It was built for the Atlantic slave trade. They were used to hold slaves before they were loaded onto ships and sold in the Americas, especially the the Caribbean. This "gate of no return" was the last stop before crossing the Atlantic Ocean

Would you?

Kakum National Park is on coast of southern Ghana, in West Africa. It protects an area of rainforest, home to endangered mammals such as forest elephants, bongo antelopes and primates like the Diana monkey. The park is rich in butterflies and birds, including African grey parrots and hornbills. The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, provides treetop views of the forest.

Mole National Park - a 2 hour jeep safari was just $10!!

We saw elephants, crocodiles, warthogs, antelopes plus many birds and bugs.

Western Africa unfortunately doesn't have much wildlife anymore but hopefully populations can flourish in the next few decades.

Where is your favourite wildlife spotting place?

After taking a dug our canoe along the river, complete with buckets to shovel the water out, after around an hour we reached the hippo sanctuary and several bathing hippos.

They were incredibly graceful for such huge animals, and we even caught one showing off for the camera!
