Friends!

I got "challenged" and for once I decided to try and make a little spearfishing vlogstyle video.. I hope you'll enjoy watching. If you do, please do leave a comment. It will encourage me to try again better next time. The Camera angle was too high and I couldnt use most of my shots from that day. Will better that next time 😁

Spearfishing is often way underestimated, it takes real genuine passion to be succesfull.
You need good practise on freediving and respect safety. You need knowledge of the marine environment and fish behaviour before you shoot anything. You need to be mindful of traffic on the surface and have good ethics.

If you've got that going. You'll have to wait for the right conditions of the sea. Clear water is paired with Wind, Current, waves.. etc.

Often there's times where you've got a boat ready with a full tank, a big ice box with ice, got all your gear ready and spend all day in 2m horrible, dangerous and murky water to come back either empty handed or at best with one or two proper sized fish.

But you must pull through those days, like in life. Do not get discouraged or lose the passion. Keep on training on land and have your gear ready for the next window of opportunity.

A day like this was absolutely gorgeous and we took a little more fish than we do because it's such a distant trip and I was very excited to try out cold smoking & curing by salt and sun drying. We shared the fish among our three.

Normally never bring my action camera with me during trips because strapping a camera makes me uncomfortable and when I get home, the footage is bad or.. there's always something..

Also - A little supersticious, when I bring my camera.. There's no fish or terrible underwater visibility.

But when I don't bring my camera, there's clear water and we see the most amazing life down there.

I want to break that cycle 😆

Last, As a foreigner in Thailand, fishing at sea and posting it on Facebook I must be extremely careful. Even though spearfishing falls under the same laws as fishing and is completely legal outside of a "National Park".

I must be mindful and remove the video if I start getting too much negativity.

So Instead let's spread some POSITIVITY!

การยิงปลา นอกจากจะเป็นการออกกำลังกาย,ช่วยเพิ่มความคล่องแคล่วว่องไง,ฝึกสมาธิ และได้โอ้อวดเพื่อความเท่แล้ว ยังมีประโยชน์ต่อสภาพแวดล้อมทางทะเลด้วย

การจับปลาด้วยวิธีอื่นๆก่อให้เกิดปัญหาทางระบบนิเวศน์ เพราะเป็นการไม่เลือกเจาะจง, จับติดสัตว์น้ำอื่นๆหรือลูกปลาอายุน้อยโดยการลากอวนจับปลาในปริมาณมาก

การยิงปลานั้น ในทางกลับกันเป็นกิจกรรมที่มีเป้าหมาย ผู้ยิงนั้นต้องโฟกัสที่ปลาแค่ตัวเดียวในแต่ละครั้ง และต้องมีความระมัดระวังและเลือกยิง ซึ่งเป็นไปไม่ได้เลยที่จะยิงโดนสัตว์น้ำอื่นหรือลูกปลาโดยไม่ตั้งใจ การจับปลาด้วยวิธีนี้ ทำให้ปริมาณปลายังคงเหลืออยู่ต่อไปมากขึ้น

แน่นอนว่าเป็นสิ่งสำคัญที่ควรต้องรู้ว่าสถานที่นั้นๆอนุญาตให้ยิงปลาได้ ทั้งนี้ การจับปลาโดยวิธียิงปลาเป็นสิ่งที่ดี

Spearfishing. Aside from the benefits to the people actually engaged in spearfishing, such as increased exercise, higher levels of alertness and mental agility, and the bragging rights that come from taking down slippery prey, there are also benefits to the marine environment.

Many other fishing methods create problems for ocean ecosystems because they are relatively indiscriminate and catch even other animals or younger fish and because they scoop up so many fish in one go.

Spearfishing, on the other hand, is a much more targeted activity. A person focuses on landing only one fish at a time, and each attempt needs to be carried out with care. So there is little to no chance that some other animal, or some younger fish, could get killed accidentally, and the number of fish caught using this kind of method will be much lower.

Of course, it’s still important to check if spearfishing is allowed in a particular area, but, on the whole, it’s a more targeted fishing method, and that is a good thing.

A lucky window of opportunity, after months of patiently waiting for the weather to settle down again, we went on a trip at sea to fill our freezers again with some fresh protein. Deep water, strong currents & not great visibility but good adventure, we prevail.

These moments last forever. With respect & gratitude.
