Khao Yai National Park Information 🌳
1. Area: • 1,355,468.75 rai or approximately 2,168.75 square kilometers at the time of establishment. • The latest information indicates 2,215.42 square kilometers or 1,353,471.53 rai. The slight difference is due to subsequent additional surveys. 2. Provinces it covers:
It covers 4 provinces:
1. Nakhon Ratchasima - Pak Chong District, Wang Nam Khiao District 2. Prachinburi - Mueang Prachinburi District, Prachantakham District, Kabinburi District, Na Di District 3. Nakhon Nayok - Ban Na District, Pak Phli District, Mueang Nakhon Nayok District 4. Saraburi - Kaeng Khoi District, Muak Lek District Total of 11 districts.
The majority of the area is in Prachinburi (53%), Nakhon Nayok (27%), Nakhon Ratchasima (15%), Saraburi (5%).
3. Year it was declared a national park:
Declared as... Khao Yai National Park, Thailand's first national park, was established on September 18, 1962.
It was designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2005.
4. How many types of wildlife are there?
High biodiversity:
• 71 species of mammals, such as wild elephants, gaur, tigers, bears, gibbons, barking deer, deer, and wild boars. • More than 350 species of birds, including hornbills. • More than 189 species of butterflies. • 3,000 species of plants. 5. Prominent tourist attractions in Khao Yai:
Waterfalls
• Haew Narok Waterfall – the largest and highest in the park. • Haew Suwat Waterfall – very beautiful, once featured in a Hollywood movie.
Viewpoints
• Pha Diao Dai – for watching the sunrise and sea of mist. • Khao Rom – the highest peak at 1,351 meters. • Khao Khiao – a viewpoint and location of a radar station.
Nature trails
There are many trails for hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife viewing, such as the Km. 33 - Nong Phak Chi trail, and the Visitor Center - Kong Kaew Waterfall trail.
Other options include:
• Nong Phak Chi grassland – a wildlife viewing spot where you can see elephants, gaur, and deer. • Nong Phak Chi wildlife observation tower – for evening and nighttime wildlife viewing. • Sai Sorn Reservoir – a sunset viewing spot.
Khao Yai is also an important watershed for the Nakhon Nayok River, Prachin River, Lam Takhong River, and Lam Phra Phloeng River, and enjoys a cool climate with an average temperature of 23°C throughout the year.
