In the early Rattanakosin period, the Lopburi River carved a meandering course through Bang Pahan District—flowing from north to south, then curving westward before merging with the Pa Sak River. This natural waterway became a vital lifeline, encouraging residents of Pho Sam Ton and nearby settlements to gradually relocate to its fertile banks. As waterways were the primary mode of transport at the time, these riverside communities flourished into a thriving new settlements.

This place, known today as 𝗕𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗶, was named after this very process of expansion. A reflection of how people grew with the river, embracing change, opportunity and connection.

After visiting two inspiring Community-Based Tourism (CBT) sites in Baan Jumrung, we dedicated our final sessions to 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 & 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨 and our commitment to the 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 & 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻, ensuring we're fully prepared for our sustainability audit later this year.

Over the past three days, we’ve:
🌊 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙛𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨, supporting local economies.
🌿 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙚𝙘𝙤-𝙩𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢 𝙖𝙩 𝙍𝙖𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙚, traveling by foot, bike, and Green Power Boats.

🚲 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙨 & 𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 using local motorcycle sidecars—embracing authentic, low-impact experiences.

It’s been three days of quality learning, meaningful connections, and immersive experiences, blending work, action, and inspiration for a more sustainable future in tourism!

♻️ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 – 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮: 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 🍀👣

Our journey this day was a full immersion into 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡, blending 𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩, 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙘𝙤-𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 and culminating in an important workshop on shaping the future of responsible tourism.

🛶 Morning at Ao Makham Pom – Coastal Fishing Village 🦀
We started the day by experiencing small-scale coastal fishing, supporting the local economy by purchasing fresh crabs straight from the boats. Responsible tourism isn’t just about visiting but it’s about uplifting communities.

🌿 Exploring Rayong Botanical Garden 🚲🚶‍♂️🚤
We then headed to the Rayong Botanical Centre where we explored on foot, by bicycle, and in Green- Power Boats. An eco-friendly way to connect with the Ramsar wetlands while minimizing our environmental impact.

📚 Workshop on Responsible Tourism & Travelife Certification
The heart of today’s discussions centered on our short-, medium-, and long-term goals, ensuring we maintain our Travelife Certification, the prestigious and highest recognition of excellence in sustainability for tour operators.

🌱 We ended the Day with a Mangrove Forest Trail & Seaside Ride
For the final stretch, we hopped onto local motorcycle sidecars, traveling just like the locals, as we explored mangrove trails and coastal landscapes. The perfect close to a day focused on low-impact, high-value travel.

This journey reinforces our commitment to sustainable and inclusive tourism, not just in theory, but through real actions that shape the future.

Yesterday marks the first step in our journey, 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙, 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢.

This journey is more than an outing—it’s a commitment to relearn what 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢 mean.

At Ban Prasae, Rayong, we will engage in 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮-𝘽𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢, embrace 𝙀𝙘𝙤-𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡, and explore ways to make tourism more 𝘼𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝘼𝙡𝙡. Every step we take is an opportunity to foster responsible travel and strengthen our collective impact.
