Mourning Period for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother of Thailand
We, the Thai people, hold deep love and reverence for our beloved monarchs. On 24 October 2025, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand, peacefully passed away at the age of 93.
During this national mourning period, we would like to kindly share some guidance for visitors traveling in Thailand:
Many Thai people will be wearing polite and subdued attire as a sign of mourning. While this is not required of visitors, we encourage wearing respectful clothing in public areas.
Please refrain from inappropriate or disrespectful behavior during this time.
Most tourist attractions remain open as usual, except for Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Grand Palace, which will serve as the venues for the Royal Funeral Rites. We will continue to update you and provide alternative sightseeing options as needed.
The Government has requested entertainment venues, such as bars and nightclubs, to consider their operations during this period. Decisions will be made individually. Most traditional events and festivals will continue, though some may be adjusted for appropriateness as a mark of respect.
Transportation, banks, hospitals, and public services will continue to operate as normal.
Relevant authorities have enhanced safety and security measures to ensure the comfort and convenience of both Thai citizens and international visitors.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to your travel plans and deeply appreciate your understanding.
By visiting Thailand during this significant time, you become part of a meaningful national moment—one that reflects our culture, unity, and heartfelt respect for Her Majesty’s lifelong devotion to the Thai people.
