Let’s celebrate! 2 Million downloads and 1 million stories played in one month!

We are happy to announce 2 more important milestones. Our mobile app has just hit 2 million users! This officially makes izi.TRAVEL the most popular audio guide app in the world! Equally important is that in May we also hit the outstanding record of 1 million stories played by our users.

This shows travellers are relying more and more on the content you provide them with your tours to explore new places and museums. Well done to all of you! This success is mostly due to your efforts and investment in producing the type of content that will really enrich the travel experience!

Do you want to know how your content contributed in reaching this milestone? We would like to remind you that with the new CMS statistics, you can easily check the performance level of your tours. Don’t forget to regularly take a look at those figures to improve your tours and increase the usage of your content.

Unlock a darker side of Maitland Gaol this Friday night. Wandering through Maitland Gaol it is hard to escape the history concealed within its towering sandstone walls. After the sun sets and lights come on, its history becomes even more palpable. Stories of criminals and their crimes are animated by the shifting shadows, and tales of discipline and hardship become more intimate standing in a dark corner of the old cell blocks.

For a limited time Maitland Gaol will be open at night. To help you explore the Gaol, there are three self guided audio tours to choose from, each providing a different perspective of life behind the bars. This special experience will be available on Friday 27 May, 24 June and 22 July from 6.30pm until 9.30pm (last entry at 8.00pm). To pre-book visit www.maitlandgaol.com.au, or you can also just turn up on the night.

Storytelling: bringing art to life

In a digital age where people are reached by all sorts of information, how can museums and heritage institutions capture the attention of potential visitors? Creating engaging & appealing stories for diverse audiences while maintaining the integrity of the exhibition can be quite the challenge.

How can you develop engaging stories that spark interest in potential visitors?

Traditional approaches to describing art and cultural heritage can be quite factual and ‘boring’—consisting of dozens of dates that will quickly be forgotten. In order for your stories to have a long lasting effect, they must connect with the visitor on a deeper level; you must grasp the attention of the listener.

But how do you do that? The answer is simple: tell stories that trigger the emotions of your visitors. When people are emotionally connected, they will remember the value of your message and automatically get more involved.

# 1 Know your visitors—who are you telling your stories to? Storytelling is more than telling stories; it’s about listening to stories of others.

# 2 Creating relatable stories is key! When your audience relates to your stories, they identify and engage.

# 3 Spend time investigating current developments, trends and technology to build the most immersive experience. Be relevant. The information is available to everyone, but it’s how you deliver it that matters.

The combination of education and entertainment can create a brand new and exciting user experience!
