A magical night on the Chao Phraya river, witnessing the breathtaking fireworks display of the 'Vijit Chao Phraya 2025'festival. There's nothing quite like enjoying a fine dinner while the sky above Bangkok illuminates in gold and crimson. A truly unforgettable evening.

Hidden along the Bangkok Noi Canal, Ban Bu Village is the last community in Bangkok still practicing the centuries-old art of handmade bronzeware. This rare craft dates back to the Ayutthaya period, when elegant bronze bowls and utensils were made for temples and royal households.
Visitors can watch local artisans at work — every piece is entirely hand-shaped, hammered, and polished using traditional techniques passed down through generations.

Hello here is a video I took at Phra Tat Cave in Erawan National Park, Kanchanaaburi. July 2025. Very interesting to see the Limestone formations especially the translucent ones.

In February this year I accompanied some guests to visit the Ban Bu Community- located in Bangkok Noi district. This is a pretty and quiet area of Bangkok, with interesting narrow streets and low rise buildings. A peaceful contrast to our modern city centre.

At the Jiam Sang Saija Bronze Factory a small group of craftspeople hand make the metal bowl “ Khan Long Hin” Stone polished Bronzeware:
The process starts with smelting tin and copper to make Bronze.
There are 6 steps in the manufacturing process.

Smelting
Forming
Lathe cleaning
Turning to prep for decoration
Cutting and polishing
Carving and decoration

Very sadly no young people seem to be interested in taking up this skilled work - after all it is dirty, noisy and hot. In the not too distant future I fear the factory may close and part of our heritage will disappear along with the production of these amazing bronze bowls.
I have purchased a couple of beautiful bowls from the shop and I am very pleased to own them. Small bowls start at around 1600 Baht.
The factory address is :
Jiam Sang Sajja Bronze Factory, 133 Charan Santiwong Soi 32, Siriraj, Bangkok Noi, Bangkok 10700.

If you were interested I would be happy to take you there and if needed interpret - please mail me [email protected]. It can sometimes take 2-3 days to get confirmation that the factory and shop will be open, and perhaps not all areas of the process will be working. Kind regards Wandee

Ayuttaya at Night
1 Dec - 1 Jan
The ancient city of Ayuttaya is only about 90 minutes of Bangkok and somewhere I am never bored to visit.
I recently visited for an evening as part of a lecture event. The pictures are of Wat Chai Wattanaram

Please consider visiting from now until January 1st 2024. Friday-Sunday. It really is a beautiful to see the temples gloriously lit at night..
Wat Chai Wattanaram and Wat Ratchaburana are both open until 10 pm.
Entry fee 50Baht for non Thai and 10 Baht for Thai , and at Wat Ratchaburana there will be a night market.

Many Thai enjoy hiring traditional clothing locally to add to their experience- and if you ask will likely be happy to be photographed, or perhaps you could join in and hire for yourself!.

If you wish you could hire me as your driver for an evening please contact me: [email protected]

This; like the National Museum, where I have also trained . “Nights at the Museum” event is very well worth visiting.
If you don’t need my service please do consider making your own way to give support to Ayuttaya .

Somewhere to consider during your next Bangkok visit-
The Patpong Museum, dedicated to the history of the infamous red light district .

https://www.patpongmuseum.com/

I went a short while ago, and it was very interesting.
During your visit you will learn all about this renowned red light district.
How it started, Who supported it, What went on…
The night market is beginning to open so maybe come in the late afternoon, enjoy a little market shopping after your visit, and perhaps have a meal.

Sadly for me no private guide needed easy to do it yourself.

Please do note this museum is adult themed!!
Check the website for current opening days and hours.
When I went it was open every day except Wednesday (closed)
open Hours 12:00-2200
