Chiang Mai, Day 1 🌿
We did the Pha Dok Siew trail in Doi Inthanon this morning. Two hours, mostly downhill, through forest and past a waterfall that’s absolutely going off right now with all the rain. Then it opens out into rice terraces that are stupidly green.
Low cloud sat over everything, so you’d get one ridge, then another behind it, then another fading out. Photos don’t really do it.
The trail ends in Ban Mae Klang Luang, a Karen village. Our guide’s family grows coffee on the slopes we’d just come down, so there’s a cup waiting for you at the bottom. We stayed a lot longer than planned.
In the evening we went to Green Guide Fest at Railway Park. 35+ food stalls, craft and wellness stuff from villages around the province, live music every night. TAT Amazing Thailand set it up as a certified carbon-neutral event — nothing from the bins goes to landfill, food scraps go to CMU to become biogas. Free entry, runs till Sunday. We mostly ate.
