We’ll be discussing ‚Matriarchal Societies: Studies on Indigenous Cultures Across the Globe‘ by Dr. Heide Göttner-Abendroth, and hearing directly from Layli of the matrilineal Bribri people about her lived experience.

Here‘s how the Matriarchal Study Club (paid community 25€/ month) works:
Each month, we explore one central theme through books, films, and research on matriarchy, matrifocal societies, and women’s history. We read and discuss together, and I guide the conversations with context, lectures, and discussion prompts. We’ve already got hours worth of classes inside the community and our next live class will on Wednesday.

I’m so glad this case is finally forcing mainstream discourse to confront how crucial postpartum care actually is, but I wish it will also lead to more conversations on why on earth we‘re still idealizing a family model that routinely leaves women at their most physically, emotionally, and economically vulnerable with the absolute least amount of collective support.
