The Sam Loh or tricycle was invented by Commodore Luan Pongsopon in 1933 and was first used for transportation in Nakorn Ratchasima. After becoming very popular, it was later registered as a form of public transport under the supervision of the Royal Thai Police Office until 1967 when the traffic in Bangkok became too congested.
