Touching someone’s head is a big deal ✋

Playing with someone’s head is a big, fat “NO”. The head, because it’s the highest part of the body, is considered the sacred part. Unless you’re their parents, or much older than them, touching someone’s head is considered rude. This rule applies to everybody even amongst friends. If you want to touch someone’s head or hair, you have to ask for permission or the person will easily get offended.

It’s not a big deal living with parents 👪

In western countries, it’s normal to see people start living on their own from around the age of 18. That’s not the case in Thailand, though. You can live with your parents even when you’re 40 and no one will think it’s weird. Usually, parents will let their children (or child) live on their own after marriage or they have to be in different provinces. There are also cases that the wife has to move into the husband’s house and live with his parents as well – it’s pretty common.

Pad Krapow (Thai Stir-Fry with Basil) 🍳

While Tom Yum Soup is well known for foreigners, Pad Krapow is a go-to dish that Thai people love. The dish is basically stir-fried meat (pork, chicken, beef, seafood) with Thai holy basil and garlic, seasoned with fish sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and some red chilies served on top of rice and often topped on with Thai style sunny side fried egg.

Pad Krapow is usually a little spicy but you can request it chili-free and still be able to enjoy the taste of Thai without having to worry about your stomach later on.

ผัดกะเพรา 🍳

ในขณะที่ต้มยำได้รับความนิยมอย่างสูงในหมู่นักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติ ผัดกะเพราก็เป็นอีกเมนูหนึ่งที่ได้ใจคนไทยมาแต่ไหนแต่ไร ด้วยวิธีการทำที่ง่ายและรวดเร็ว คือการเอาใบกะเพรามาผัดกับหมูบด ไก่ เนื้อ หรือซีฟู้ด ใส่กระเทียม ปรุงรสด้วยน้ำปลา น้ำมันหอย น้ำตาล และพริกอีกนิดหน่อย เสิร์ฟคู่กับข้าวหอมมะลิร้อนๆ เพิ่มไข่ดาวอีกหนึ่งฟองเป็นอันจบ

โดยปกติแล้วผัดกะเพราจะมีความเผ็ดเล็กน้อย แต่หากคุณเป็นคนทานเผ็ดไม่ได้ คุณสามารถสั่งแบบไม่ใส่พริกมาทานได้โดยที่ยังอร่อยเหมือนเดิม แค่ไม่ต้องแสบปากแสบท้องเท่านั้นเอง
