Due to the Covid Plague we have not operated since March last year .....the cost of keeping the business open with no tourism in Thailand was too much to sustain so we have mothballed everything and stepped to Papua New Guinea
We have scouted out some great rides here and will soon advertise them here and on the website
In the meantime keep the shiney side up and stay positive by testing negative or go get vaccinated

Last day on the road on our tour from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp
Leaving Lhatse at a brisk 2 degrees C we joined the Yalung Tsanpo (Brahmaputra river) initially a broad open valley with snow capped mountains on either side.
The valley narrowed into gorge country where the remains of ancient trade roads could be seen.
When we reached the Lasa river we turned and headed into Lhasa and our final stop after a great ride through this magical and starkly beautiful part of the world.
We were only a small group with 4 riders and 2 passengers
Our guide Jashi did a splendid job and was extremely knowledgeable on all things Tibetan
A very special thank you to Jah from Ride China for arranging all of the logistics and not inconsiderable admin and permitting required for foreigners to travel into Tibet
Will we run this tour again? Absolutely ....one in May 2020 and another in Oct 2020

This 10 days in Tibet riding the roof of the world has been a wonderful experience

Day 6 on the road Lhasa to Everest base camp

The morning saw us grounded as the authorities had closed the road over the 5 200 metre Gyatso La mountain pass so we sat around in the hotel until midday when the snow stopped.
We gave the huge number of cars busses and trucks that had been held up an hours head start to clean any ice that may have formed on the surface before pushing off.
We were quite surprised to find most of the road was dry from the traffic that had gone ahead. A brief stop at the top of the pass to grab some photos , minus 5 degrees C ...then we pushed ahead to our overnight stop at Lhatse .....the days ride was 230 km so we managed to arrive safe and sound at our hotel in the late afternoon . Thank you to the inventor of heated grips

Lhasa to Everest base camp day 5
Tigri to Everest base camp

Took an early start from Tigri, a grubby but modern service town and headed the 100 or so Km to Everest base camp. One section of the road rises from 4000 metres to 5200 metres and then back to 4000 m over about 40 km and the road has literally several hundred bends with a lot of tight hairpins .... great ride equaling or bettering the Stelvio pass.
The Chinese authorities stopped us short of the camp and we had to take a bus to Rongbuk monastery which at 5190 metres is the highest in the world.
To our absolute disappointment the road to the base camp was closed and the view of Everest was obscured by cloud so we hung for a few hours hoping for the clouds to break but it wasn’t to be . As a very poor consolation we managed a glimpse of the lower section of the mountain

Lhasa to Everest base camp day 3 on the road Gyantse to Lhatse
An early morning visit to the fort on the hill overlooking the town and the wide and long valley where huge amounts of grain are grown.
The countryside from Gyantse starts of as a wide valley at 4 000 metres and some of the hills as high as 5 000 metres with permanent ice caps.
This region is one of the premier grain growing regions of Tibet
The country then goes into hill country with many barren hills and deep river gorges which are quite spectacular

Departing from Tsetang we climbed over a range and had great views of the mighty Tsangpo river befor a quick stop at the Samye monestary.

From there we travelled west and crossed the river and climbed to 4900 metres and were greeted by the spectacular turquoise lake Yamdrock... from there we visited 2 glaciers at 4500 m and 5000 m respectively before making our way to our overnight stop at Gyantse at an altitude of 4500m.
The scenery was nothing short of breathtaking for the whole day and the road was reasonably good with some great twisty bits

Our first day on the road saw us depart Lhasa and basically follow the yarlung tsanpo river which becomes the Brahmaputra river in in India.
The country is in its autumn cloths and the bulk of today’s ride was at about 11700 feet above sea level with cool mornings and very pleasant days. After checking into our hotel in Shannan and a late lunch we visited the castle of the first King of Tibet located about 20 km from the city
