October 22, 1960, Paul E. (Ed) Yost made the first free flight of a modern hot-air balloon from the former Bruning Army Air Field. The flight lasted 25 minutes and covered 3 miles.

🎈 On this day in 1960, Ed Yost took to the skies over Nebraska in the first modern hot air balloon, forever changing the world of flight! Using a propane burner and new lightweight materials, Yost made ballooning safer, more practical, and more accessible than ever before.

From that single flight emerged an entire era of sport ballooning and adventure!
