ลาแล้วปี 2563 ปีที่โควิด-19 ทำให้มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าเหลืออาสาสมัครที่มาช่วยงานดูแลสัตว์ป่าน้อยมาก ไม่มีนักท่องเที่ยวมาเยี่ยมชมงานดูแลสัตว์ป่า หรือแม้กระทั่งแขกที่มาพักที่ Eco Lodge นั่นหมายความถึงรายได้หลักของมูลนิธิฯ ที่นำมาใช้จ่ายและรักษาดูแลสัตว์ป่าก็ขาดหายไปด้วย มูลนิธิฯต้องลดค่าใช้จ่ายหลาย ๆ อย่างลง โดยที่เรายังคงรักษามาตรฐานการดูแลสัตว์กว่า 700 ชีวิตไว้เช่นเดิม และในขณะเดียวกันเรายังคงช่วยเหลือสัตว์ป่าตามคำร้องเรียนจากชาวบ้านตามสถานที่ต่าง ๆ รวมถึงสุนัขและแมวที่มารักษา หรือเพื่อเพิ่มสวัสดิภาพให้แก่สัตว์ เช่น การทำหมัน การฉีดวัคซีน การถ่ายพยาธิอย่างต่อเนื่องอีกกว่า 1000 ตัวตลอดทั้งปี

Well 2020 will definitely go down as one to remember. The Covid-19 Pandemic brought us to our knees. Without volunteers, day guests and a reduced number of lodge guests our main source of income was taken away. We had to act fast on mechanisms to help us reduce costs without decreasing the standard of care for over 700 animals, while rescuing and providing veterinary care for 1000’s more.

Without the kindness and generosity of you, our supporters, we do not know where we would be right now. You kept us going. Thank you to the generous Thai Nationals who brought food and other goods for the animals. To all those around the world that sponsored the care of our animals during the pandemic and paid to keep Edwin locked away, THANK YOU!

Thailand is currently experiencing a second wave of Covid-19 infections. This creates further uncertainty to our immediate future and of course the welfare of our animals. Our animal’s still need help, please see https://covidsupport.wfft.org for more info.

Here at WFFT times could not be harder. Our money reserves are lower than ever; we are living from week to week right now. Our staff are rushed off their feet trying to care for 700+ animals including 29 elephants, over 300 primates and many others. The animal food alone is a huge expense. The staff we were able to keep on are still running on reduced salaries. Covid-19 is still on the rise around the world. Thailand is still closed meaning we have no income. ดังนั้นทางมูลนิธิฯ จึงอยากขอให้ท่านช่วยเราอีกครั้ง เพื่อให้เรายังสามารถช่วยเหลือสัตว์เหล่านี้ให้อยู่รอดต่อไปได้

สู้วิกฤติโควิดต่อไปที่มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า

สืบเนื่องจากการช่วยเหลือช้างเพิ่มเติมอีก 4 เชือก นาก และสัตว์กลุ่มไพรเมท ซึ่งรวมถึง "ปังปัง" ลูกค่างแว่นถิ่นใต้กำพร้า ทำให้จำนวนเงินที่มูลนิธิสำรองไว้เพื่อใช้จ่ายในการดูแลสัตว์ลดลงอย่างมาก ทางมูลนิธิจึงอยากขอความช่วยเหลือจากท่านผู้มีจิตเมตตา เพื่อให้ "ปังปัง" และสัตว์ที่อยู่ในการดูแลยังสามารถมีชีวิตต่อไปได้

ทั้งนี้ยังมีช้างอีกจำนวนหลายเชือกที่เจ้าของขอความช่วยเหลือจากทางมูลนิธิฯ เนื่องจากไม่มีทุนทรัพย์เพียงพอที่จะเลี้ยงดูช้างอีกต่อไป ทางมูลนิธิฯ พยายามเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่จะจัดหาอาหารให้เพียงพอต่อสัตว์ที่เราช่วยเหลือมา เช่นเดียวกับสัตว์อื่น ๆ ที่รอการช่วยเหลือจากเรา โดยต้องผ่านการพิจารณาอย่างถี่ถ้วนก่อนที่จะทำการช่วยเหลือ มูลนิธิได้รับดูแลสัตว์เป็นจำนวนมากจนเต็มความสามารถที่จะรับได้ และการช่วยเหลือสัตว์ในขณะนี้จะพิจารณาจากสัตว์ป่าที่ต้องการความช่วยเหลือเร่งด่วนก่อนในเบื้องต้น

The Struggle Continues at WFFT…

With additional animals to care for including 4 recently rescued elephants, an otter, and numerous primates including Pang Pang the orphaned infant langur we are once again asking for your help. WFFT’s financial reserves are lower than ever before.

Without your support rescuing orphans like Pang Pang will no longer be possible. Numerous elephant owners are asking for us for help, as they can no longer afford to feed their animals. We are struggling to feed our own animals therefore each animal rescue is reviewed in-depth before we can commit to yet another financial outgoing. We are full to capacity and are currently only helping animals that are in urgent need of rescue.

ช้างในประเทศไทย ต้องการความช่วยเหลือ

ในช่วงเดือนสิงหาคม เป็นเหตุการณ์ครั้งประวัติศาสตร์ของทางมูลนิธิที่ได้มีโอกาสช่วยเหลือช้างมากที่สุดเท่าที่เราเคยทำมา ซึ่งเป็นจำนวนช้าง 4 เชือก , ปัจจุบันเราดูแลช้างทั้งหมด 29 เชือก รวมถึงสัตว์ชนิดอื่นๆมากกว่า 700 ตัว

ช้างเชือกใหม่ได้มาถึงมูลนิธิวันนี้ตี 5 หลังจากที่ได้เดินทางไกลมาจากภาคใต้ ช้างเชือกนี้ชื่อบุญมา อายุ 71 ปี บุญมาเคยใช้เป็นช้างลากซุก และช่วง 10 ปีที่ผ่านมาได้ถูกใช้ด้านการท่องเที่ยวทางภาคใต้ เหมือนเช่นช้างบ้านอื่นๆกว่า 3,000 เชือก แต่เมื่อเกิดเหตุการ์ณโควิด 19 บุญมาจึงไม่สามารถใช้ทำงานในธุรกิจการท่องเที่ยวอีกต่อไป ควาญช้างที่ดูแลบุญมามาตลอดชีวิต ได้ย้ายมาทำงาน และดูแลบุญมา ที่มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า ชีวิตของบุญมาได้เริ่มต้นใหม่ที่นี้ จะไม่มีโซ่ และการขี่หลังอีกต่อไป

ช้างในประเทศไทย ยังคงต้องการความช่วยเหลือจากเราอีกจำนวนมาก ซึ่งมากกว่าทุกๆครั้งที่ผ่านมา และเราต้องการความช่วยเหลือจากคุณ เพื่อช่วยเหลือช้างเช่นกัน วิกฤตจากโควิด 19 ทำให้ช้างจำนวนมาก และควาญช้างไม่มีรายได้ในการดำรงค์ชีพ มีโทรศัพท์หลายสายโทรเข้ามาเพื่อขอความช่วยเหลือจากมูลนิธิ ตัวอย่างเช่น เช้าวันนี้มีคนขอให้ช่วยลูกวัว ที่แม่ได้เสียชีวิตลง จากทางภาคเหนือของประเทศไทย แท้จริงแล้ว เราจะไม่สามารถช่วยเหลือช้าง ,ควาญช้าง , จ่ายเงินเดือนพนักงานดูแลสัตว์ หรือซื้อที่ดินได้ หาขาดเงินบริจาค และการสนับสนุน

The month of August goes down in WFFT’s history as the month we have given refuge to more elephants than ever before. The WFFT Herd grew by 4 elephants; we now care for 29 elephants along with 700+ other rescued animals.

The newest member of the herd arrived at 5AM this morning after a very long journey from Southern Thailand. Her name is Boon Ma, she is an astonishing 71 years old. Having spent most of her life being used as a logging elephant, she spent the last 10 years working in tourism all over Southern Thailand, like many of Thailand’s 3000+ captive elephants, when the covid crisis hit she no longer had a use in tourism. Boon Ma’s mahout who has known her all his life, has moved to WFFT to work with us and to continue to care for her. No more rides, no more chains, her new life begins now.

Thailand’s elephants need our help more than ever before. More than ever we need your help to help them. The Covid-19 crisis means so many elephants and their owners can no longer make a living to feed themselves never mind make a profit. Calls for help are currently a daily occurrence. Just this morning we heard reports of a young calf whose mother had died that needs rescuing from a camp in Northern Thailand. We literally cannot continue to bring in more elephants without funds to care for them, pay animal caretaker salaries, buy land and build more enclosures.

UPDATE - The Coronavirus Crisis Continues at WFFT

Thank you to each and everyone of you who have helped us get through these terrible times. Will this crisis ever end? It seems Thailand’s borders will remain closed for the forcible future leaving us with an uncertain future. No guests and no volunteers mean no funds to run our projects. We are still struggling to feed the 700+ plus residents here at WFFT. Our initial Covid Support Campaign was to care for our animals for 3 months; this period is now over so we once again need to reach out for help and support. We are blown away by the kindness of the supporters so far (https://covidsupport.wfft.org/wall-of-fame/).
