Review of the visa waiver measures and various visa regulations of Thailand
On the 19th. May 2026, the cabinet has approved the revision of Thailand's visa waiver and visa-on-arrival rules. These revised measures include:
1. Grant of only one visa exemption scheme per country/territory
2. Lifting the 60-day visa waiver for all 93 countries/territories
3. Revision of the 30-day visa exemption for tourism purposes and reduction of the list of eligible countries/territories (from 57) to 54 countries/territorials
4. Introduction of a new 15-day visa waiver for tourism purposes for 3 countries/territories
5. Revision of the Visa on Arrival and reduction of the list of eligible countries/territories (from 31) to 4 countries/territorials
The details and criteria are set out in the relevant disclosures of the Home Ministry, which are published in the Royal Official Gazette and will enter into force 15 days after publication.
Foreigners who are already under the previous visa exemption regulations in Thailand, as well as persons who wish to enter Thailand before this revision comes into force, may remain in the country until the expiration of their approved period of residence. After that, they can enter Thailand under the following conditions: (1) the new visa regulations, (2) bilateral visa waiver agreements or (3) a suitable visa that can be conveniently applied for through the Thai e-Visa system.
