πLa Galite Islands, Bizerte πΉπ³
The grave of Elisabeth Darco, remains one of the most remarkable and well-preserved memory markers in the islandβs abandoned Christian cemetery.
The Inscription: ("Here lies Elisabeth DARCO, born October 14, 1905, passed away February 20, 1936"). She passed away at just 30 years old.
The DβArco name belongs to one of the original Italian families from the island of Ponza who settled on La Galite in the 19th century. For generations, these families built a unique community centered around fishing, agriculture, and life on the isolated archipelago.
Today, headstones like Elisabethβs stand as enduring symbols of the island's rich multicultural heritage and the forgotten stories of the people who once called La Galite home.
