Is Turkey dangerous? Short answer: no.
Its US travel advisory is Level 2, the exact same as France, Germany, and the UK. It is a secular NATO country where women wear what they want, English is everywhere, and your phone, cards, and Uber all work. Istanbul at night feels safer than most big European cities.

That price tag in Turkey is just the opening offer.
At the markets and bazaars, bargaining is expected and it is half the fun. Open at around half, go back and forth, and land near 60 to 70 percent. Keep it light, say yes to the tea, and if the number is not right, just smile and walk away. The next stall usually has the same thing.
One rule: markets and bazaars only, never in restaurants or fixed-price shops.
