Kaleiçi or old town Antalya, Turkey is a little maze of cobbled streets twisting and wobbling like some of the old Ottoman houses that it homes but at the edge of this old town there is a modern surprise.

This was my favourite street in Antalya and possibly my favourite street ever. Whoever had the idea to tie up some umbrellas across the top of a street is a champion. As tourists reach Donerciler Bazaar’s street, they get a shock as a palette of colours comes down from the sky. A simple idea provides a dramatic effect particularly when the sky is fiercely blue. Umbrellas are meant to shelter you from the rain but here the umbrellas do the opposite of shelter, they expose you to a bright and colourful experience and change walking down this pedestrianized street into an unexpected two minutes of cheerful pleasure.

A message to town planners everywhere, want to change a simple area into a artistic experience? Simply, string up some colourful umbrellas.

#8-Myre...

#6- Perga (Perge) was also an ancient Greek city in Anatolia and the capital of Pamphylia. Today it is a large site of ancient ruins 15 kilometres east of Antalya on the coastal plain. An acropolis dating back to the Bronze Age can be seen loacted there. During the Hellenistic period, Perga was one of the richest and most beautiful cities in the ancient world, famous for its temple of Artemis. It also is notable for being the home of the renowned ancient Greek mathematician Apollonius of Perga. Perga is an archaeological garden which is a must to see for everyone interested in cultures. Marvel at the perfect acoustic and the architecture of the Aspendos theatre.
