We’ve been introducing visitors to the cultural secrets of the Şanlıurfa region since 2008.

This image was taken in 2009 on a visit to a nomadic camp at Karacadağ - the visitor is sharing the images he’s taken with the family.

Discover Kurdish culture with village home stays and walks through the region.

This is the Kurdish art of ‘dek’-the decorating of women’s faces with tattoos following specific traditional patterns. The tattoos are made using a needle, cinders/soot, and the milk from a woman who is breastfeeding a baby girl.

Several Kurdish villages along the Abraham Path in Sanliurfa provide accommodation and food for travellers, and allow visitors a glimpse into cannoning traditions such as ‘dek’

Working together with the , Nomad Tours is bringing walkers & visitors back into the region as the walking trail, the Abraham Path, is waymarked afresh and an inaugural group of 13 travellers from 9 different countries undertake a 10-day hike from to .

In the wake of the devastating earthquakes earlier this week, the Abraham Path Inititiative, has begun a Go Fund Me campaign, the proceeds from which will go directly to the people of Yuvacali and the immediate area. Many of Nomad’s guests in Yuvacali will have met Pero and Halil. Their house, along with many others, has been destroyed. The aim of this fundraiser is to provide immediate relief in terms of shelter (shipping containers), food, and firewood for fuel. The conditions on the ground are dire, with snow and cold weather adding to difficulties.

The Abram’s Path Initiative, which has worked with Nomad Travel in the past to help develop walking routes and bring sustainable tourism to the Sanliurfa area, is a registered non-profit organisation in the US.

After several years away from the tourism scene, the team at Nomad are delighted to announce their return with the launch of Nomad Travel Turkey.

We will be offering tours and home stays as before along with the brand new addition of a guest house in central Sanliurfa.
