Istanbul Unveiled Travel Documentary by Serif Yenen is available on YouTube now!

It is a city of mystery, a city of wonders, whose history is unlike any other. Istanbul—once known as Byzantium, then renamed Constantinople—served as the capital of three empires. Today, its architectural treasures are enduring legacies of Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman rule.

Once a major stop along the Silk Road, Istanbul’s historic center is now a UNESCO Heritage site. Its past continues to offer up new discoveries and evidence of the quotidien lives of long-ago city dwellers. There are also reminders around every corner of the city’s place in world history, from Hagia Sophia to Topkapi Palace, from the Chora Monastery to the underground ruins of the Byzantine Great Palace.

Serif Yenen, a travel specialist, and author, highlights some of the iconic places to visit along with sites still waiting to be discovered by visitors to this storied city.

From this, our experts were able to determine how close the palace’s dimensions are to the golden ratio, which is 1.61803398875. In essence, the smaller the percentage difference, the more statistically beautiful the palace.

The odd and unforgettable wonderland of Cappadocia!

Last Saturday on Feb. 20, CNN Travel aired an episode devoted entirely to Cappadocia on the travel program, “Quest's World of Wonder.” This is the second episode in the fourth recurring season of the show, which is presented by CNN’s well-known anchor and correspondent Richard Quest, who also paid a visit to Istanbul in the travel show’s premiere season in 2019. The show has had to film much of the past two seasons amid the COVID-19 pandemic and even aired an episode devoted entirely to the technical difficulties of the situation. Nonetheless, production persevered, and in November of last year, Quest visited destinations in Turkey’s historical Cappadocia region known for its fairy-chimney rock formations, caves and underground dwellings and embarked on adventures such as frequenting the Avanos Hair Museum, riding a horse and hot air balloon and filming from the award-winning Museum Hotel.

“It is unique. There is a landscape that is one of a kind, with experiences that are unusual and enriching - and you will want to experience the distinctiveness of all of this for yourself,” said Quest, speaking on his experience filming the segment at Cappadocia.

Formula 1 races through Istanbul’s history!

Red Bull Racing driver Alexander Albon challenges AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly to take in the sights of Istanbul in just one day. The two Formula 1 drivers head on over to their vehicles, and the game is on.

A promotional video featuring Red Bull Racing driver Alexander Albon and AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly is currently being broadcast worldwide. The film is the first ever to feature an intercontinental pit stop in the middle of the Bosphorus Bridge that crosses the Strait of Istanbul, one that connects Europe to Asia.

The drivers sped through the city’s most striking and celebrated sights like Topkapi Palace, Galata Bridge, Sultanahmet Square, the Eurasia Tunnel and Bosphorus Bridge in their Formula 1 vehicles.

AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly emphasised the importance of his experience during the promotional film, saying “Driving a Formula 1 vehicle in Istanbul, especially going from continent to continent was wonderful. It was very cool to be a part of such an important day.”

Red Bull Racing driver Alexander Albon said, “It was a great experience driving on the streets of Istanbul. The moments between two continents were unforgettable.”

Formula 1 back in Istanbul after 9 years!

The Turkish Grand Prix has been added to the calendar of Formula 1 after an interval of nine years. Held in Istanbul for seven times from 2005 to 2011, Turkey has been added to the 2020 calendar, which has been revised due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Accordingly, Turkey's Intercity Istanbul Park in Tuzla will host a Grand Prix to be run on November 13-15, 2020. It will be this year's 14th round and will mark the 8th Grand Prix to be hosted by Turkey.
