🕌✨ Yeni Camii – The Jewel of Eminönü

Standing proudly at the entrance of Istanbul’s Golden Horn, the Yeni Camii (New Mosque) is one of the city’s most iconic Ottoman landmarks.

Its construction began in 1597 under the order of Safiye Sultan, the mother of Sultan Mehmed III, but political struggles and financial issues delayed its completion for decades. Finally, in 1663, during the reign of Sultan Mehmed IV, the mosque was finished by the patronage of Turhan Hatice Sultan, his mother.

With its elegant domes, semi-domes, and two towering minarets, the mosque reflects the grandeur of classical Ottoman architecture. Surrounding it is the famous Egyptian Bazaar (Spice Bazaar), built as part of the mosque complex to support its upkeep.

Today, Yeni Camii remains not just a place of worship, but also a timeless symbol of Istanbul’s history, culture, and faith. 🌙✨
