Pottery is known as a mysterious form of art as well as an aesthetic, mainly due to the motives used. Because all motives used in a pottery design have unique meanings. For example; galleons pictured wıth a fish figure in the Ottoman period tell about the victories of sea battles and represent yearning. Pomegranate design which is still being applied today represent plentifulness and abundance, clover design represents rejuvenation and refresh, peacock represents heaven and its gardens, tree represents the connection of human beings and the nature, phoenix design represents beauty, abundance and power, pond lilies represent the tranquility of the mind and the purity of the soul, while the cypress tree represents the connection between life and death.

Our tradition our friendship, no wonder why Turkish hospitality is known worldwide. A very Common proverb says that a cup of coffee commits one to 40 years of a friendship. Therefore you can guess what type of good coffee is that, right?

The stones found at Göbekli Tepe in Turkey in 1994 mark it as the world’s first temple and one of the most important archaeological sites ever discovered. Carbon dating shows the 45 stones may be as old as 13,000 years old which makes it the oldest site by an amazing margin, considering Stonehenge was built around 2,000 to 3,000 years ago and the pyramids of Giza 2,500 years ago.

Caves of Heaven and Hell some of the most impressive of themany limestone caverns scattered along Mediterranean coast. You enter via 452 steps cut into the rock on the eastern side of the canyon. On reaching the bottom, head south towards the entrance to the Tayfun Mağarası (Cave of Typhon), a bona fide cave of some depth, at the end of which runs a stream of drinkable water from the same source as the spring water in Narlıkuyu. Some historians to believe that this cave may have been considered one of the mythicalentrances to Hades. According to the legend, Typhon, after whom the cave is named, was an immense hundred-headed fire-breathing lizard, the father of Cerberus - thethree-headed dog who guarded the entrance to Hades on the banks of the RiverStyx, allowing only the souls of the dead to enter and refusing to let them out. Büyükada (the "Great Island", the original Prinkipo, or "Prince's Island", in Greek) is the largest of the islands of Istanbul and has long been inhabited by minorities. It has traditionally been a place of retreat or exile, and Leon Trotsky lived here from 1929 to 1933, when he began to write his History if the Russian Revolution. He spent most of his time at İzzet Pasa Köşkü, an attractive wooden mansion on Çankaya Caddesi. Mansions of Büyükada tend to have beautiful gardens full of magnolia, mimosa and jasmine, and in the surrounding pine forests myrtle, lilac and rock roses grow wild, so the scents of the island on a summer's evening are one of its most memorable aspects.

Situtated at the very head of the Gulf of Gokova, with steep Sakara Tepe looming overhead, scenic AKYAKA (Gokova) has always been popular with Turkish holiday-makers but is now attracting a small number of foreign tourists; in the UK, Anatolian Sky, Tapestry and Simply Turkey all have properties here. The town is arrayed along an unobjectionable grid of streets on a slight slope amidst dense pine forest; private villas are interspersed between pansiyons and small hotels, most built attractively in a sort of mock-Ottoman-exe architectural style mandated by a local preservation code. Although Akyaka's town beach consists of hardpacked sand, merely suitable for getting into the clear waters of the gulf, there's a much better gravel beach 2.5km west of town, beyond the old jetty, and another more utilitarian strand to the east, beyond the river mouth. Try to have tomato sauced sea bass steam from one of the local restaurants along "Azmak" where river meets sea.

According to some sources, Assos was the site of a thirteenth-century BC Hittite colony, although the earliest traces only really date from the eighth century, when Greek colonists from neighbouring Le**os (Lesvos) established a settlement, later building a huge temple to Athena in 540 BC. From 347 to 344 BC Aristotle made his home in Assos as the guest of Hermias, developing his philosophy further before the arrival of the Persians forced him to flee. The site was only rediscovered in 1880 when it was stumbled on by a 25-year-old American, Francis Bacon. It's now your turn to rediscover of this picturesque town of Çanakkale.

Camlik is the site of the Open-Air Rail Museum, southwest of Selçuk town. The biggest steam locomotive Museum of Europe. The museum occupies the sidings of a former train-works and exhibits include more than two dozen steam locomotives, many pre-World War I; the majority are German-made but there are also British, American, Czech, French and Swedish models. The locomotives are rust-proofed and mounted on sections of track, and you will be free to clamber up into the cabs and to operate the hand-wound turntable around which a half-dozen of the most impressive are grouped. Other rail vehicles - such as handcarts and cranes - are also on display.

The island of Bozcaada - formerly known as Tenedos (from Tenes, one of the heroes of the Trojan War) - is a more popular and cheerful place than Gokceada, if only because it's far less militarized and more architecturally of a piece. It's too close to the mainland to have avoided the attention of Turkish rulers down the ages and the population, as evidenced by a handful of medieval mosques, has historically been about one-quarter Muslim. Covered mostly in vineyards that produce the justly famous Bozcaada wine, the island is small enough to walk around, and it has some excellent beaches, though the water is freezing cold until September.
