Time to say Goodbye.
Over 25 yrs ago a young couple sat under a shady tree on a golden sandy beach looking out onto a perfect blue sky and a calm turquoise sea. There and then they fell deeply in love with a beautiful tiny island 4,5000 miles away from their home. It wasn’t just the natural and unspoilt beauty of Tobago that made them fall so hard but also the kind and gentle nature of her people, fresh and tasty food and its rich culture.
The couple were blessed with good fortune, worked hard and bought a plot of land on a hill looking out towards the sea. They saved hard and a few years later they built a house that became a beloved home. They painted it pink and named it Ginger Lilies. They made friends that became as dear to them as family and had neighbours who always made them smile as they welcomed them “back home” as friends on every single visit.
As the years passed they knew that it was not right that the house should have periods time when it sat empty and that it needed to be aired, lived in, rented and shared in order to keep it healthy. They knew it was always necessary to take a certain amount of bookings from overseas renters whose deeper pockets could more easily bear higher international rates that would in turn maintain the building and grounds. It was though a most deliberate choice to take the majority of bookings from T & T nationals at very affordable rates that on some occasions only just covered their running costs. The intention was to share their beautiful home on that beautiful island with a majority of locals at nightly rates that were comfortably within their financial means. It was always hoped that in doing so that as many local families as possible would also be able to make as many happy family memories in their home as they had been blessed to do.
For a few short years the couple ran competitions that enabled them to give away Free Weekend stays at the villa. To thank and support neighbouring local businesses they included free gifts of their products and services and in doing enabled hopefully valuable endorsements and advertising to those oh so valuable members of the Tobago business community . For many years a weeks stay at the villa was offered as a prize at (a local to the owners Cancer Charity event) raising over $160,000 TT . From that first day so many years ago the couple knew how blessed they were and always tried within their own means to be kind and fair employers, useful and productive members of the local community and to repay in some small part the acceptance and kindness of the good people of T & T.
All things have their season and the time has now come for the couple to start the next exciting chapters of their lives. It’s time to say Goodbye. Beautiful Tobago, it’s been a blast! 🌸🌺🩷
