The Investment and Business Development Department recently met with the developers of Island International Hospital (IIH), a US$50 million, 100,000-square-foot development that will place medical tourism among its key areas of focus.
The project is expected to create 150–300 direct healthcare and administrative jobs, as well as more than 300 indirect employment opportunities. It also aims to expand access to healthcare services locally and help reduce the need for outbound medical travel.
In keeping with the Ministry’s focus on developing Medical Tourism, the Investment and Business Development Department will work with IIH to determine the project’s eligibility for incentives under the Tourism Development Act, 2000.
Construction is already two months ahead of schedule, with the multi-million-dollar substructure phase, comprising more than 200 piles, recently completed.
Investments such as this have the potential to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago’s healthcare capacity while creating jobs and opening new opportunities within the tourism sector.
