北門 (台北市) The Northen Gate - Taipei City
The NOrthen Gate is one of the oddest gate preserved in Taipei City, Taiwan.
It was built in 1884. There were four gates in each side of the square old city.
Unfortunately, the wall and some of the gates were tore down under KMT takeover.
The current mayor of Taipei City tore down the originalapproach road of Zhongxiao Bridge that covered the gate.
In this August, the Norhten gate was reopened and it's beauty was represented in front of the republic again.

If you are interested the old times in Taipei, Datoung District (大同區) is another good choice except for Dadaocheng area. In Datoung District you can see traditional ceremonies such as the ceremony of Confucius and the Baosheng Culture Festival(保生文化祭). Also, Datoung District developed early before hundreds of years, so the buildings here are old.
However, Backpackers in Taiwan always think that modernization is not equal to beauty and Old houses should not be tagged as ugly. We sincerely hope every visitors and travelers would enjoy the beauty of times.

Freedom lies in being bold.

Feb. 28, 1947, 228 massacre happened in Taiwan.

It's a terrifying massacre done by the ruling party at that time. More than 10,000 people were killed because they traced freedom and hoped to be treated equally. A lot of victims were doctors, lawyers, teachers and pastors, those we called elites no matter in current days or in 70 years ago.

Freedom never comes for free.
Like American, Europeans or any other nations who had fight for freedom, Taiwanese had also blen for the same thing.
Thanks to their sacrifice, Taiwan is the only democratic and liberal country in mandarin-speaking countries. Unfortunately, the exact number of victims and culprits are still unknown.

We post this news not tend to tell you how horror the event was or how sorrow Taiwanese people feel whenever Feb. 28 comes, but hope that everyone comes to Taiwan knows this kind of history is closely correlated with current Taiwanese characteristics and, indirectly or directly leads to the complex China-Taiwan problem.
