The Chase Was On!

She came charging after the wildebeest at full speed—but in the wild, speed is only half the story.

A lioness can reach around 60–70 km/h (37–43 mph) in a short burst, while a wildebeest can sprint at roughly 65–80 km/h (40–50 mph). That tiny difference can mean everything when a life-or-death chase lasts only seconds.

We watched her push every bit of power into the chase, but the wildebeest was already too far ahead. She arrived at full speed, but just a little too late.

That’s the reality of the wild: sometimes the hunter wins, sometimes the prey escapes.

Four Little Cheetahs, One Important Lesson

Four playful cheetah cubs spent their morning chasing, wrestling and tumbling over each other. But then, suddenly, playtime was over.

They followed their mother up onto a termite mound, where she stopped and began scanning the open plains. From this higher ground, she could see much farther, searching for any opportunity to hunt.

The cubs stayed close, watching every movement and slowly learning from their mother. One day, they will have to do this on their own.

For now, they still have each other, plenty of energy to play, and a mother teaching them the secrets of survival in the Serengeti.

The Giraffe vs. The Thorns

We watched this giraffe feeding just a few metres from us, calmly browsing on a balanite tree covered in huge, sharp thorns.

But how does a giraffe eat something that looks like it could hurt its mouth?

The secret is its incredible tongue! A giraffe’s tongue can be around 45 cm long, tough and highly flexible. It carefully wraps its tongue around the leaves and pulls them away from the thorns with remarkable precision. Its thick lips also help it select the leaves while avoiding the sharpest points.

What looks like a dangerous meal to us is simply breakfast for a giraffe!

Nature has equipped every animal with its own special survival tools. And this giraffe definitely knows how to use hers!

The cheetah lost the meal… but one lioness won it all!

Today in the Serengeti, we watched a cheetah make a kill. Then two lionesses and a big male lion arrived, and the cheetah quickly ran away, knowing it couldn't compete with them.

The lions started fighting over the remaining meal, but then one clever lioness grabbed a big portion and ran off with it!

The other lions were left behind while she enjoyed her prize.

WHEN TWO PREDATORS WANT THE SAME MEAL…

We were watching a lioness carefully stalking a gazelle. She was getting closer and closer, completely focused on her target.

Suddenly, the gazelle sprinted!

We wondered what had frightened it… until we realized there was a leopard hiding incredibly close by!

The leopard had been there all along, completely unnoticed by us. The gazelle had spotted it before we did!

And then… the unexpected happened.

The lioness and the leopard found themselves chasing the same prey, turning one hunt into a dramatic competition between two predators.

A breathtaking moment in the Serengeti today. Thousands upon thousands of zebras gathered at the stagnant water near Gol Kopjes, drinking together despite the harsh dry season. Nature always finds a way.

Earlier, we spotted a lion resting in the distance, watching over the endless plains. We stopped for a while to admire this incredible scene before continuing our adventure.
