About Jackpot Safaris Ltd.
Jackpot Safaris Ltd. is an award-winning East African safari tour operator based in Arusha, Tanzania. Founded by myself, Andrew and my wonderful wife Esther. Our three talented daughters Helen, Queen and America have also been on board for several years. With Jackpot Safaris we offer unique and sustainable safari experiences. As an owner-managed family business, we place great emphasis on authenticity, sustainability and working closely with local communities.

Our history
The passion for tourism runs in my family. My father *Naftal Thairu Njuguna* of Kenyan origin was a tour guide for Kuoni, one of the largest travel companies in Europe, back in the 70s and 80s. From him I inherited my host genes, which inspired me to start our own safari company. In 2004, full of enthusiasm and supported by my wife Esther, Jackpot Safaris Ltd. was born.

Our vision and values
Our aim at Jackpot Safaris is to provide unforgettable safari adventures that deeply connect our guests with the nature and culture of Tanzania, while supporting the local community and protecting the environment. Our core values are:

- Authenticity and integrity: we offer our guests genuine and unforgettable experiences that are deeply rooted in the culture and nature of Tanzania.
- Sustainability and conservation: We are actively committed to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices.
- Community and collaboration: We work closely with local communities to build a better future together.

Running a safari business comes with many challenges, but through hard work and passion we have managed to overcome these and grow in the process. One of the biggest challenges has been to incorporate sustainable practices and ensure that our safaris are not only beneficial to our guests, but also to the environment and local communities.

Authentic experiences and cultural exchange
Our guests have the unique opportunity to experience the daily life and culture of local communities first-hand. From homestay programmes and shared safari guides to workshops and courses, we ensure that every safari is an authentic and enriching experience.

A particular highlight is our "A Day in the Life of a Real Bushman" programme, where our guests spend a full day with a Hadzabe family, learning about and actively participating in their daily activities, rituals and hunting traditions.

Future plans
At Jackpot Safaris, we have big plans for the future. We want to continue to expand our sustainable practices, initiate new community projects and continue to provide unforgettable safari experiences. With the support of my family and our passionate staff, we are confident that we will achieve these goals.

“Can we see tree-climbing lions?” 👉🏿 Yes — but only in the right place. You won’t find tree-climbing lions everywhere. And definitely not in the Serengeti.

In Tanzania, that place is Lake Manyara National Park. Not because they’re special. Because this is where they learned it. The trees, the shade, the behaviour — it all comes together here.

👉🏿 In the Serengeti? You can drive for days and never see one in a tree.

When we plan a safari, we don’t follow expectations. We follow what actually works. That’s the difference. Travel with us — and you’ll understand why 🤝🏿

“Will we see rhinos?” 👉🏿 Not by just driving around. Seeing a rhino is not luck. It’s tracking.

Rhinos don’t move like other animals. They stay hidden, use dense cover, and avoid open plains during the day.

To find them, you need fresh tracks (often only minutes old), the right wind direction & knowledge of where they moved the previous night.

👉🏿 Most safaris miss them. Not because they’re gone — but because they’re not read correctly.

This is where guiding matters.
It’s not about driving more.
It’s about understanding what you’re looking at.
This is real safari guiding.

Come on safari with us — and you’ll understand it 🤝🏿

A sundowner is not about the drink. It’s about timing. Anyone can stop the car and open a beer. But the window is small:

👉🏿 stop too early — you miss animal movement
👉🏿 stop too late — you lose the light

A good guide reads: light conditions, animal behavior, distance back to camp and the exact moment when everything aligns. That’s when you stop. This is not a break. It’s part of the experience design. Good safaris are built on decisions like this.

Don’t chase the Big Five – Chase the feeling. Everyone wants to see the Big Five: 🐘 Elephant, 🦏 Rhino, 🦁 Lion, 🐆 Leopard, 🐃 Buffalo 🖐🏿 But after 25 years as a guide, let me tell you this:
The most powerful moments don’t always involve the Big Five. Sometimes it’s the silence.

A 🦒 appearing out of nowhere. A group of 🦓 kicking up dust in the golden light. The breathless awe in someone’s eyes.

🧭 A safari is not a checklist. Don’t chase the Big Five. Chase the feeling.

If they show up – wonderful. But the magic? It’s everywhere.

Inside the Park – Why staying in the park changes everything 🛖🦓
Thinking about saving a bit by staying outside the park? 🖐🏿 Before you book, here’s what most travelers don’t realize:
The real safari doesn’t start with the game drive.
It starts with waking up in the wild. With hearing 🦁 at night. With 🦓 grazing outside your tent at sunrise. With not having to rush back before the gate closes.
🏕️ Stay inside. Sleep in the silence. Be where the magic happens. You’ll drive less. See more. Feel more.
Safari isn’t just what you see – it’s what surrounds you. And that starts with where you sleep.

Thinking about a 2- or 3-day safari? 💬 Then this might be the most important advice you’ll hear before you book. 🐃🦁🐘🦒🦏🐆

I often see guests trying to visit as many parks as possible in just a few days. I get it – the big adventure is calling, but time is short. Or the budget is tight. Or both.

But please believe me when I say this:
A safari is not a checklist. Don’t try to see everything at once. Pick one place. Stay. Slow down.

My father used to work as a guide for major international tour operators. I’ve been guiding independently for nearly 25 years now. And I can tell you from the heart:

The real magic of safari doesn’t happen on the road between parks. It happens when you sit still. When you wait. When you simply breathe. When nature decides to show itself – in its own time.

Less is often more. The wild doesn’t follow a schedule. But it will reveal itself if you’re patient. Fewer parks. Deeper moments. That’s what stays with you forever
