The Great Migration in the Serengeti is one of the most extraordinary wildlife spectacles on Earth—a breathtaking natural event that attracts travelers, photographers, and wildlife lovers from every corner of the world. Every year, over 1.5 million wildebeests, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, move in a continuous circular journey across the vast plains of the Serengeti ecosystem and into the Maasai Mara in Kenya. This migration is not random; it is a survival-driven search for fresh grazing land and water. The migration usually begins in the southern Serengeti plains between January and March, where thousands of wildebeest calves are born daily during the calving season. Jasper is an international tourist who visited Tanzania with the main goal of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. He chose the Machame Route, one of the most popular and scenic paths to the summit, often called the “Whiskey Route” because it is slightly more challenging than the Marangu Route but offers better views and a higher success rate due to good acclimatization.
