SERENGETI ECOSYSTEM AND MIGRATION PATTERN

The Serengeti wildlife migration is a spectacular annual event where over 1.7 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles migrate in search of greener pastures. Here's what's happening now and what you can expect at different corners of the park.

Migration Patterns.

-June: The wildebeest herds are congregating on the south side of the Grumeti River in the Western Corridor, preparing to cross the river. This is a great time to see large concentrations of wildebeest and zebras. It lays the foundation of Great animal migration on the planet.

-July-August: The herds will continue moving northwards, spreading out across a broad front, with some heading through Grumeti Reserve and Ikorongo, others north through the heart of the Serengeti National Park.

River crossings at the Mara River are expected, which can be a dramatic and intense event to see with your necked eyes.

# MIGRATION CYCLE

-December-April: The herds are in the southern Serengeti, specifically in the Ndutu area near Ngorongoro, where calving season takes place from late January to early March.

Visiting this time around will give you a huge opportunity to witness the calving between 5000 and 8000 youngs daily.

-April-May: The animals start migrating north, with columns of wildebeest stretching for several kilometers, drawn by fresher grass in the central Serengeti.
-August-September: The herds spread out across the northern Serengeti, with some crossing into Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve.

-October-November: The herds begin their return journey south, passing through western Loliondo and the Serengeti National Park's Lobo area.

BEST PLACES TO SEE THE ANIMALS MIGRATION.

-Western Corridor: Grumeti River Camp, Kirawira, and Mbalageti Lodge are great spots to witness the river crossings.
-Northern Serengeti: Kogatende area, Serengeti Lamai, and Sayari Camp offer excellent views of the herds and river crossings.

-Southern Serengeti: Ndutu Lodge and Kusini are ideal for witnessing the calving season.
