Why Do Elephants Wallow in Mud? 🐘

Elephants cover their bodies with mud for good reasons.

Mud helps them stay cool under the hot African sun. It also protects their skin from insects and reduces sunburn.

After a mud bath, the mud dries and forms a thin layer on the skin.

This layer helps remove parasites and dead skin when it falls away. Young elephants also enjoy rolling in the mud while they play with the herd.

During a Tanzania safari, you can often see elephants visiting rivers, waterholes, and muddy pools.

Watching this natural behaviour is one of the highlights of a game drive in Tarangire National Park and Serengeti National Park.

Where Is the Best Place to See the Greater Kudu in Tanzania?

The greater kudu is one of the most beautiful antelopes in Africa. Its long spiral horns, large ears, and white body stripes make it easy to recognise.

It is also shy, which makes every sighting special.

Ruaha National Park is one of the best places in Tanzania to see the greater kudu.

The park has open woodland and thick bush where this antelope lives. Early morning and late afternoon often give the best chance to spot one as it feeds or moves through the trees.

A game drive in Ruaha can also bring close views of elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and many bird species.

The park has fewer visitors, so you can enjoy a quiet and natural safari experience.

Add Ruaha National Park to your Tanzania safari and look for one of Africa's most graceful animals.

Interesting Facts About Warthogs

A warthog may look tough, but it has many surprising habits. It spends much of the day searching for grass, roots, berries, and small plants.

During the dry season, it digs for food that other animals cannot easily reach.

A warthog often enters its burrow backwards. This simple habit keeps its sharp tusks facing the entrance, giving it a better chance to defend itself from predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas.

Despite its short legs, a warthog can run at speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour. When danger appears, it quickly races to the nearest burrow or thick bush for safety.

Young warthogs stay close to their mother during the first months of life. She protects them and teaches them where to find food and safe places to rest.

A safari in Tanzania offers an excellent chance to watch these fascinating animals in their natural habitat.

Their unique behaviour and strong survival skills make every sighting memorable.

Why do climbers visit Zebra Rock on Mount Kilimanjaro?

Climbers visit Zebra Rock on Mount Kilimanjaro for four primary reasons:

1- Altitude Acclimatization: Many climbers hike here from Horombo Hut to help their bodies adjust to the altitude. This follows the "climb high, sleep low" rule, which helps prevent altitude sickness.

2- Geological Photography: Trekkers come here to see and photograph the bold black-and-white mineral stripes that give the rock a zebra-like appearance.

3- Panoramic Views: From here, you get great views of the dramatic Mawenzi Peak and the wide saddle area that leads to Kibo Peak.

4- Physical Preparation: The steep trail to the rock is a good warm-up, allowing climbers to test their gear and pacing before the final push to the summit.
