NOTHING GOES TO WASTE IN THE WILD

Every part of an animal has value, even long after death. In the African wilderness, survival depends on making the most of every opportunity, and nothing truly goes to waste.

Although hyenas are often unfairly labeled as the “ugliest” animals, they are among Africa’s most important wildlife species. As both skilled hunters and scavengers, they help maintain a healthy ecosystem by controlling prey populations and cleaning up carcasses, reducing the spread of disease.

Watching the interaction between the adults and cubs was a wonderful reminder that every species has a vital role to play in nature, and every safari offers a chance to appreciate wildlife beyond appearances.

The first herds of wildebeest have arrived in the Western Serengeti, marking the beginning of the rutting season. During this fascinating period, dominant bulls establish and defend small territories, competing for the attention of females. A successful bull may gather and mate with 15–20 females within his territory, while rival males constantly challenge for the opportunity. The plains are now filled with dramatic displays of strength, endurance, and courtship as the Great Migration enters another exciting chapter.

This morning in the Ngorongoro Crater, we witnessed a little lion drama unfold.

A dominant male lion was enjoying some quality time with a lioness when his brother decided to move a little too close for comfort. The dominant male wasn’t impressed and quickly reminded his brother who had the lioness’s attention. A few pushes, a few warning looks, and the message was clear: “Not today, brother!”

No serious fight followed, but it was a fascinating glimpse into the complex social lives of lions. Even in the wild, love triangles can get complicated!

Another unforgettable safari moment from the Ngorongoro Crater.

Serengeti traffic police were on duty yesterday. 🦁

This lioness stood beside the 50 km/h sign like she was checking every driver’s speed. And honestly… nobody wanted to get a speeding ticket from her.😂😂

One of the most interesting things about safari is that nature never hides its reality. Today in the Serengeti, we watched two powerful male lions emerge slowly from the bush, moving with the confidence that only dominant males carry. The tall grass still covers much of the plains at this time, and they had clearly been resting in the shade before stepping into the open.

Then came a moment that made everyone laugh quietly in the vehicle one of the males stopped right in front of us and casually started pooping while his brother stood nearby watching the surroundings. It may sound funny, but even simple moments like this tell a deeper story about wildlife. Lions are completely comfortable in their territory. They do not live with embarrassment or fear of judgment; every action is part of survival, communication, and routine life in the wild.

For us, it became another reminder that a safari is not only about hunting scenes or dramatic action. Sometimes the most unforgettable moments are the honest and raw details of nature itself — watching two kings of the Serengeti simply living their everyday life under the African sun.
