The road up to Kilimanjaro isn’t all Mountain and Mist.

Just outside Moshi, in the Weru Weru forest, there’s a spot where the trees close in overhead, and the only sound is water finding its way over rock.

A wooden bridge takes you across the stream — the kind of crossing that makes you slow your step and look around.

It’s not on the safari circuit. It’s not on the climb. It’s just a good place to slow down for an afternoon, before or after the bigger adventure.

After a full day out in Tarangire, this is the kind of place you’re happy to come back to.

We park the vehicle, everyone freshens up, finds somewhere comfortable to sit, maybe orders a drink… and somehow we’re still talking about the day.

“Did you see that elephant?”
“What about those lions?”
“And that moment we almost drove past?”

That’s safari. The game drive may be finished, but the day usually isn’t.

You sit back, enjoy the view, talk about what you saw, laugh about the little moments, and before long, someone is already asking what tomorrow day might be.

Then we rest , relax

And in the morning, we drive out again.

As we were slowly making our way back as the sun was going down, then we spotted these lions resting up in the tree.

Of course, we stopped.

That's one thing about safari never be too quick to call it a day. Sometimes, just when you think you're done, the bush has one more surprise for you.

We stayed for a while, then carried on with this beautiful sunset following us down the road.

Not a bad way to end the day.

Look at All Those Wildebeest.

When you first arrive, you might think this is the only herd. it's just part of it. But keep looking across the water, along the bank, and all the way into the distance. There are still more.

This is where we normally switch off the engine and stay for a while. There’s no reason to rush.
You watch them moving, calling, some crossing while others are still gathering. And from where we're sitting, it already looks like an incredible number of animals.

Can you count them? Tell us how many you can see.

But that’s the amazing thing about seeing the migration here in the Serengeti.
This is part of the herd.

Somewhere between the sightings, the dusty roads
and the question of “what time are we leaving tomorrow?” Someone says, “Cheers.”

And everybody joins in.

These little moments never make it onto the Safari itinerary. There’s no scheduled time for them, and we certainly can’t promise them.

But after days on safari together, they just happen.

Maybe that's one of our favorite parts of this job watching a vehicle full of people who arrived in Tanzania as guests slowly becoming a group of friends and later family.
